Just keep lube at hand and don't force the bolts. Lube it from under the car and from the top. If a bolt goes, it's nice having an extractor handy too.
What shape is your stock one in? If it's still good, I want it. I've been running a short shifter and hate it - though my shifter is stupid short. Finding gears at the track is tricky and because the shifter is longer under the car, the force on the shifter arms is increased. Since there's more force going into the tranny it's caused some damage to my tranny. I'm anxious to take it out and go back to stock.

Track driving and street driving have completely different effects on a car. I'm just saying you're not necessarily going to get the same results I get.
If you're aggressive with your shifting and put a lot of force on the shifter like I do, then that incrementally adds more force onto other parts and will damage your transmission. It's just something to keep in mind is all. I have a short shifter in 2 of my cars but the track -----'s shifter is a lot shorter than the other one. Not sure what make it is but hangs really low under the car. Just be aware of it is all and try not to slam it through the gears at the strip or though aggressive acceleration on the street.

Don't mean to turn you off short-shifters. A lot of people track short shifters without any problems. It's just I don't seem to know my own strength and a short shifter isn't a good thing for me and the way I drive my car. Right now I'm being forced to be gentle between the gears and it's costing my time on the track - which isn't good. A short shifter may suit your style of driving just fine.
