Default Shocks and Springs?

I have done all kinds of searching and reading all over the internet and this is what I have gleaned from my travels and the questions that it has raised. Any help would be appreciated

It is my understanding that aftermarket lowering spring kits should not be used in conjunction with stock shocks because they will fail, it is also my understanding that this is due to the length of travel of the old shock compared to the height of the new spring (I think Ive got a grip on that much, if not please feel free to set me straight).
On top of that, it seems that lowering springs and aftermarket shocks should be rated to the same spec's (Spring rate?), but if you do indeed have no idea what the spring rate is of the aftermarket springs you happen to own, then it is nearly impossible to match them to a specific shock. Having said that ( and providing Im not entirely wrong). If I have a set of cheap aftermarket e-bay special springs is there a low cost, shorter shock option, something from Crappy tire or part source perhaps from a different year or make that will suit the application.
I really only want to come down 2 inches or so, just enough to look like its lowered. I understand it makes more sense to get a full coilover setup. I just have very ( I do mean Very) limited funds, because my silly *** is going to art school this fall.(Anyone one wanna be a canvas while I learn to tattoo?)

Any help is appreciated

Oh and what is the fancy name for the paint colour on a red Integra like mine (Pics are up in the general discussion forum)

you have the main idea behind everything. props on actually researching before making a post and being spOOn fed.

in your case, if you wanted to keep the ebay special springs, go for a shock that will handle a 2inch drop. you obviously won't get the performance out of the ebay special and performance shock..but then again you are riding on ebay springs.

there are plenty of cost-effective shocks out there that will suit your 2'' drop need. you'll get the look your after and even with the ebay special springs handeling will be alot better than stock. check out tokiko blues, KYB AGX's, koni Reds. these are all shocks that for the most part, do not have damper adjustment and cannot handle more than a 2inch drop. keep your eyes out on the boards, you may find a used set of coilovers for alot cheaper, or even used koni yellows. as for crappy tire shocks, they are ment to be used with stock ride height and would probably be worse than stock shocks. hope this helps.
