This past Sunday I was heading up Erin Mills in Mississauga when that major rain storm hit. The street quickly started to flood and I slowed down to 10km, not long after I hit a big dip in the road and my cold air intake was fully submerged. The engine started to make horrid clunking sounds and I turned it off as soon as I could, but I had a feeling it was too late. I kept the car off for 30 min until the rain stopped, I took out the cold air pipe from the intake to find that yes it did suck up water, I looked inside the intake and pushed the butterfly flap with my fingers to look inside with a flashlight and a food of water came out from the intake. I took out the plugs and wanted to see if I cranked it for a bit if the water would shoot out hoping for the best but I knew it was done. After some cranking I put the plugs back in and try to start her up.. she started but the sounds that came out from the engine man I knew it was over. I just did a compression test on the engine a few months ago and it was super strong, then something like this happens, Uhhhhh

So this weekend I’ll be pulling out the B18C1 and take a look at it to see if I cane save any of the parts of if its just best to get a replacement engine. If I cant save anything and from the sounds of it, not much will be savable, what shop do you guy recommend I look at? I would like to get the car on the road a few more times before winter hits. I was thinking of also looking for a B18C5, but I wanted to know if it would be just rip out the B18C1 and plug in the C5 with the new compute or will more parts be needed? Another option is that I could send it out and get it rebuilt, but some of the shops that I call it looks like that’s going to be more expensive then just picking up something used.

this happend to me, maybe not so extreme but my car was boging hard and no power and i took out the plugs andsaw water in there is this happening to you??

i taped paper towel to a straw very securly and jsut stuck it in there.. dried it up and the c car ran fine.. prob not the best way to clean it but hey it worked

that sucks, but that's why cold air intake suck ***, plus that's why they have the bypass valve that goes inline with the piping to keep water out of the engine.

SOR at this point in time I'm not going to get rid of any parts from the B18C I'm going to pull it this weekend if I have time and then take it apart and see what I have to work with. I might make it into a project and fix it up over time.

I have been looking the past few days for engines, anyone have any advice? I was wondering if its possible to be a compression test with the engine pulled out? Anyone have a good site with pictures of how to best pull up the engine? I rebuilt my transmission 2 years ago so I know my way around but just wanted the fastest way to get it done.

It shouldnt be too bad if it started, i wouldnt get rid of it. See if you cant fix it your self.

I'm not trashing it, I'm pulling it up to take a look, I know that the rods are bent for sure because 2 of them are 2cm lower when then reach the top.

I was looking at the shop book today on how to rip out the engine and I'm sure that I dont have this loop on my b18c. Any one know if this is normal?

did u take out the spark plugs and see water??? serious mine was very bad and i dried it up and it worked fine.

I did not see any water in the plugs, but the intake had a ton of water just after the throttle body when I pushed the butterfly flap. Plus my brother works at Acura so I had it towed so that they can take a look at it, and just as I suspected major problems. Before I pull it out I'll try and start it 1 more time and see how it does.

You don't need that hook thing to take out the motor. Mine doesnt have it either.

Well the engine is out, I'll post some pix in a few days. Took me about 5 hours to get it all out. The biggest problem was the ball joints, I had to go to Acura and get the tool that removes them, should have done that from the start, I mashed up my thread on the bolt so I'll have to replace it. I drained the oil and then took a look inside, I seen a mess of metal, lots of small bits and a few bigger ones so I'm interested to see how things look when I open it up.

I have been looking at the same time for some used c1s and c5s, any way to tell the year of the engine after its been ripped out?

yes u can tell what year it is its stamped on the head remember ir will always be a year behind my 2000 is stamped as 99

^^ I have a small problem, I stripped the bold that has the crown nut on it, how to hell to I replace that. Does it have to be pressed out? I cant get the wheels back on to move the car into place untill I can replace that part.

Ok wanted to give some info on the engine.. I'm going to fix it in the summer and put it into a project car, for the Integra I'm looking for a used engine and I'm looking at a B18C5. I wanted to know if I pick this engine up and the ECU will it be an additional parts? will the ECU be plug and play or will I have to get some adapters?

OK I did some work on the engine today.. took apart the head to look inside pictures attached.. so far all wet well but I busted something from the head and I dont know what it is. Cant find it in the shop manual anyone know what this does? And how easy is it to replace? I could not get it out would not budge! Going to try to take out the pistons this week and then take it to a machine shop to get cleaned up.
