polishing oem rims
just wondering if polishing my oem rim with the oem baked clear coat is a bad idea? i wanna preserve the clear coat as best as possible and keep the rims shiny but don't know if the polish will lessen the life span of the clear coat

Well polishing rims is nothing like how the rims come factory. The silver on the rims is painted silver, its not polished. You can polish them and then clear coat them. But if you sand the clear down to make is smooth again, putting clear over it again will do nothing for looks, you will still see all the sanding marks you just put there, you would have to high speed buff the clear back to a shine, and that is hard to do on rims, and with a high speed buffer.

You cant preserve the clearcoat on the rims.
Step1-brush on paint stripper onto rim
step2-wait until it bubbles and scrape it off
step3-sand with 220...400..then wetsand with 800,1000,2000.
Then use any polish spray or polish wax

i think you guys have the wrong idea i think op just wants to make his oem rims shine and seems to me that the clear is still good just maybe dull and he just wants to know if polishing / polish compound will damage his clear coat
i think it should be safe to buff the clear coat and make it shinny
