Default Opinions on Wheel Spacers

Anyone have any experience with them?
I've seen spacers from 3mm to 25mm that widen your wheelbase. Would using spacers be safe? If not, why?
Would you be able to use two difference sizes of spacers to achieve a staggered look safely? Like wider ones on the back, thinner ones on the front?
Has anyone already done this? Pictures?

Thanks.

I worked for wheels direct in scarborough and the only time we used them was if the wheels were rubbing. I wouldnt use them to achieve a staggered look.

Why is that? What are the downsides of using spacers?

You are essentially reducing the thread count on your lugs, ultimately reducing the amount of threads your lug nuts can grab onto. Personally I would never use them unless I lengthened the lugs, even then I wouldn't feel 100% confident, especially on the track.

not only do you reduce the amount of thread on your studs, but adding wheel spacers will put more stress on your hubs.

you wont put a lot of stress on the hubs them selves but...........
it will stress bearings, tie-rod ends, steering rack, wheel studs, and.......
if you you don't get them on dead center an unbalanced spacer can be hard on the shocks
