Default Oil Pump question..

ok, i'm looking to increase the oil pressure a bit in the new motor, i was looking into buying a whole new oil pump from a type R or GSR. now honda also sells the oil pump gear and seal for the LS oil pump so you can basically rebuild your own. is it possible to rebuild my current oil pump (LS) with the Type R or GSR oil pump gear and seal? TIA

There's no way to change the gear itself. You can change the seals like you said.

Since your revving to above stock ls redline in your future, I suggest a vtec oil pump and waterpump.

your going to need a VTEC oil pump....no sense in trying to re-build a old LS pump.

just be careful when you order your oil pump that you get the correct one. if you have a OBD1 engine/car then you need a 94-95 GSR VTEC oil pump. if you have OBD2 then you need the 96+ GSR oil pump.

they flow the same but they are slightly different in shape. the 96+ pumps have provisions for some crank sensor and the timing belt covers are different and wont bolt up.

i got a complete JDM B16 and then an LS short block already torn down

i'm taking the pistons, oil and water pump from it and putting it in the ls block with a balanced crank and shot peened rods, and a block guard for piece of mind and insurance. just gonna hone the cylinder walls. Dave says it's all it needs. if the funds are available i was thinking of micro polishing and/or knife edging the crank...still got do more research... with the Zeal Calculator i'm supposed to get just over 12.1:1 CR and then the calculator that Fuzzy sent me told me 11.5:1 either way it above 11:1 which is what i was aiming for. i wanna keep up with da R's

I run a B20 pump on my B20VTEC. There's a gear kit that your can buy to run higher pressure. Paul at splitfire put it in for me. Didn't take him long. My oil pressure gets as high as 100psi at OT and even cruises at 75+. That's a good 20 PSI higher than my ITR motor was running and I image 35 higher than the stock b20 pump. I have read articles saying that running too high pressure isn't a good idea since it changes the flow of oil going through your motor, meaning you don't always get good coverage. But I trust Paul and 25 higher than an ITR pump seems about right for a higher displacement bottom end. You can call Paul and see if he's got extra kits around that he can install for you.
