ey guys just wondering on past experience with carbon fiber hoods? I just need a hood for my car. I got into a bit of an accident and my hood is done. Anyways im just curious, if anyone has ran a cf hood without hood pins. I hear they lock the hood so in highwinds your hood wont open up and smash your window. I drive a 1990 integra im doin a bronze and blue scheme so if I run hood pins I'm going to go with blue. But will I be fine without hood pins, Im just worried abit. thanks brett

 

if it was me, i'd get it. it may look like *** to some, but it's not worth getting your hood smashing into your windsheild on the highway.

 

Ya...I had one for a few months....no pins...didn't have a problem. That's not to say it was safe or unsafe....just that I didn't have any issues...

i have a cf oem style hood right now on too with no hood pins.. the friggin thing shakes a bit on the highway but no issues. just make sure to maintain your lock.

i have no first hand experience with cf hood but -- what really makes an OEM copy cf hood different from the OEM metal hood? ...other than weight? if the latch is on correctly and is not faulty, what would make it open up and why couldn't that happen with the metal hood?

 

^^^ just the way the latch is on cf hoods, because its fiberglassed on.

And we all know how fiberglass reacts to sudden changes

c/f hood on mine for years now. no pins, never had any issues or concerns.

 

99% chance you'll be fine without hoodpins if you get a hood with a well reinforced hood latch area.... but what if you're that 1%?

having your hood fly open on a 3 lane highway with another car in your left lane and a tractor trailor on your right would not be fun.

 

i have a CF hood with no pins for 2 years now. no problems, it's just that when i had no rubber stripping on the hood cought wind and flapped around. now that's it's on it stays perfectley in place. just aslong as you get a qualty hood with a good latch.

I had a cf hood on my civc with no pins. didnt have any problems just made sure everything was adjusted properly ie hood latch and rubber stoppers. never had any waving or shaking at highway speeds or while lapping.

However i prefer the hood pins for added safety and peace of mind.

unforunitely they aren't, sometimes you can see how weak it is by looking right at the latch it self.
i put mine on, if you come out to hte meet you can see it.
anythng can happen, so i didn't take the risk, $40 for hoodpins will save me 40+ in damages if the latch were to let go.

 

If You are gonna drive passed Highway speeds then get pins. (for the track)
If not then you don't have to get them is not needed. Unless your hood shakes passed 50 and it get annoying.

Theirs hood pins that have CF covers. theirs also small hood pins that are small.

most hoods are okay, but the hood pins helps a lot like DC24ME said. if you are that 1 %. you will be glad you got the hood pins.

 

He must have forgot to secure the pins, had it happen to a friend of mine ended up cracking his whole windsheild. sometime you forget to double check them.

I got a CF hood, and at the time the dude where I got it from told me a story about a VIS CF hood, brand name, and good quality, where the top layer of CF/Fiberglass separate from the underside fiberglass and the top half fliped over and smashed the windshield and busted the roof a bit, the latch and underside were still attatched properly in place, so for me it was a no brainer, hood pins for sure.
