The Type-R engine's a vtec and they have more power. The difference between the b18a/b is the b18b is a newer version on the engine, but nothing is really different, just the b18b has more HP and TQ.

yeah vtec valve cover will not fit on vtec head.
look for vtec solenoid. it will be located on the passenger side on the corner of the valve cover.
look in the pic, see the green plug/round cylinder going up, well thats the vtec solenoid.

Having a red valve cover doesnt mean anything. Its just paint. Check your block, it should have a stamp of the motor code where right where the tranny connects. Also if you have vtec it may be a GSR(B18C1) motor as well, or maybe a B16. Just check your block.

USDM Type-R is B18C5 , or even a JDM itr one is just B18C

Yes the Vtec valve cover will not fit on a non vtec. Here's a picture of a vtec valve cover and a non vtec valve cover. The vtec cover is the left and the non vtec cover is the right.

Oh ok, so i dont have vtec, the chick was confusing the ---- out of me by saying its type R and all this stuff, she did know her parts tho owning her own shop. again i know nothing about imports but my stamp is b18, it holds with a lightly modded GTP on the expressway, is that normal? i asked the guy who i bought the car off of what internals there was and he gave me a stupid look and said... uhh.. internals...what that?? he got the motor off his buddy :S my power steering and AC have both been totaly gutted aswell.

The B18A/B will run pretty good on the highway.

yep lol, i know its kinda daunting at first, but that perfectly normal for them. actually, the tranny you have has one of the lowest gear ratios for a honda. my ef hatch with a b16 in it revved at 4 grand going a lil over 100km/h.

the Gp is also auto, and has a over drive gear. The Ls tranny thats in your teg, just like mine should be around 3500 rpm's at around 120. the GS-R tranny revs around 4300 rpm's at 120, so be happy you have the LS.
