Default LS VTEC Pros and Cons?

Thinking about doing the swap...just want to get a heads up on anything in general that you should know when doing this swap ie. reliability issues...??

Thanks in advance, Omar

if it's assembled properly with quality parts there are no cons or reliability issues with a LS/VTEC.

Resale value is a very good point! if you know your going to keep the engine for a while, do it up and build it right!

For some reason not a lot of ppl are willing to dish out $$ for a LS/vtec swap.

Build yourself a strong bottem end:
RS machines pistons or forged aftermarket or OEM Honda b16 pistons
Arp Rodbolts
New bearings
Micropolish crank/balance
GSR oil pump/water pump
ARP headstuds

Golden Eagle LS/Vtec kit ( just because its so complete)
Get yourself some good valvesprings and retainers, valvetrain too if its in the budget.
OEM type R cams, or Aftermarket would do nice.

BUILDER who KNOWS what they are doing is KEY!!!!
Gord Bush is the man! Also Gram and Canadian Cylinder head has done awesome jobs for me as well. ++ other TI affiliates.

TUNE TUNE TUNE! probably most important part! do not avoid this!

Hope this helps

between the ge kit, shotpeening the rods and getting the ends resized and a girdle you might be better off selling off your longblock and buying a gsr shortblock (or even a longblock since you need the a head) if your talking about an oem rebuild with R or p30 pistons.

just throwing it on the table.

/\ but then he wouldn't have the long stroke, which is the whole point to an Ls/vtec. Unless he swaps the crank and rods.

but if you compare the rod to stroke ratio of any b series vtec engine to an ls block, it is a much higher ratio, something you want if you want to rev high and be reliable. not to mention, you'll have an external oil line to feed the head and the fact the vtec blocks have oil squirters. sure, all things being equal, the ls/vtec would have more torque, but at the cost of potential lifespan and reliablity. i'm not denying you can't build a reliable ls/vtec, but honda did what they did to the vtec motors for a reason.

like the saying goes: fast, reliable, cheap. pick two. imo, an ls vtec build is just as much money as a gsr build or a poormans itr.
