Light weight glass? or alternative?

Hey guys, if all goes well, my cf hatch will be coming in on the 30th of June. As far as I know, I cant use you stock rear glass because it will snap the hatch. Was wonderin if anyone has any info, or knows where I can get some light weight glass... or if i actually need a lighter glass. Thanks alot my second family!:yeah:

DJINFERNO806 06-12-2008 09:07 PM

wow cf hatch, somebody is bawling! lol. I guess if you go to apple auto glass they can custom install something lighter no?

Nawaaz 06-12-2008 09:11 PM

lol... I never thought of that, I shall give them a call tmrw and see what they can do.

DJINFERNO806 06-12-2008 09:14 PM

:yeah:

dc24me 06-12-2008 09:35 PM

from what i understand, most of the weight is in the glass.

FAL.

dc24me 06-12-2008 09:48 PM

^
FAL= flex-a-lite. they should make lexan/plastic windows for your car.

Nawaaz 06-12-2008 09:50 PM

yea, FAL.. just found them, and I found the glass, so probably gonna go that route :D

bbTeg 06-12-2008 11:30 PM

Why are you even doing this? Its going to scratch, haze and provide an easy way in for theives. This should not be done on a street car.

Nawaaz 06-12-2008 11:37 PM

oh.. its not a street car, my DA is going to be seeing strictly track, maybe a little bit of street driving but barely, and garage stored.

I got the FAL for my 92 gsr, awsome quailty, fits real nice and its very strong, just be careful when installing, i didnt use any screws on mine tot scared of it cracking. I went to bmw and got a tube of their black silcone that they use to put their windows in and it held it in like weld.

Sweet I'm thinking of going carbon hatch as well but I heard that they leak like crazy because of the way that the glass lines up with the hatch? Nawaaz if you don't mind what CF hatch you getting (Im thinking going VIS) and how much was your quote for the FAL?

blown90b16teg@11psi 06-15-2008 11:40 AM

yeah cf hatch is nice. i wanna do my hatch hood fendersand i think a carbon bumper but i dont think any1 makes1. all that carbon would lighten the car up pretty well. they even have a carbon look on the slipstreams ubt i dont think its real carbon

plzbeleiveit 06-15-2008 01:55 PM

If you look around and are willing to wait its just over 300.

My glass does not leak what so ever, it wont leak as long as its installed right.

Im getting the Extreme Dimensions one, from a couple reviews that I have read, it fits perfect, and im ordering the FAL glass too, its 271.

Done by myself, pretty simple talk your time let the silcone on the window bake in the sun for a good day.

Nawaaz 06-15-2008 07:17 PM

Yea, I would think that it wouldnt be that hard, so Im just gonna do it myself.
