KYB GR-2 any good?

Hi guys,

I need some advice, I have about 200k on my car and still on stock struts and springs.. I am thinking of putting in KYB GR-2 because its cheap. But I've heard that they aren't that great. Also another question is, can I use them with the stock springs? or how about H&R springs, will I need a camber kit?

its me.. mario 09-12-2005 07:50 AM

gr2's are fine for OEM replacement.. i wouldn't consider them performance though..

thats what I've been reading as well, people say they will blow with H&R because they give a drop of more than 1.5"
But my main question is will I need a camber kit if I go with the H&R, I heard that when ever a car is lowered a camber kit will be required.

Not true.

What is needed however is an alignment.

+1 youre not going that low so getting a proper alignment right after you lower your car is gonna be more beneficial than a camber kit.

Camber Kits = Overrated :p

I see some cars after lowering their car, the front or rear tires are slanted.. looks like its gonna fall off or something.
Well I bought the GR-2's off ebay this morning for $270 total. Just thinking now if I should get the H&R springs or just stick with stock springs.

Only you can decide what u would like to do with your money. But the H&R Sport or the OEM Springs will work with those shocks.

is 1.5 in the rear and 1.75 in the front drop a lot?
I've never lowered my car before so I am all new.. if anything I am thinking of using KYB GR-2 with H&R springs. Anyone had this settings before?

There are a few that run that set-up or something similar to that. The front will probably leave you with a finger gap or less. The H&R Sport actually drop about 2" front and 1.75" rear after they settle a bit. If you don't want a drop like that and want something less aggressive you can go with the H&R OE Sport (0.75") or the Eibach Pro-Kit (1.3").

Regarding the camber kit - you don't need one. It's pretty much if you think you need it.

i have the KYB gr-2 application w/H&R srpings, I killed 2 sets of my rears in 2 months....there was no camber in the begginning, and later it juss went sooooo cambered it looked like i was on air....So now i have an ingalls camber kit....Don't cheap out on suspension, its juss not worth it, they feel fine on corners, but go like 100-120 n every lil bump, ur car bounces like MAD....But my buddies Camry has the same setup as me n hes doing fine....

GR2's arent too good. Theyre like stock.

Question is did you get an alignment.....

I have a camber kit in the rear and out of all the alignments, they don't bother touching it.

Camber will not wear tires in 2 months, toe will!

Regaurds to the GR-2's... in my opinion there garbage i'v replaced them twice in about a year(the rears only haven't had a problem with the fronts yet).....
