Default Key not turning in Ignition

Hi, I tried the search function but didnt find anything on this topic.

Vehicle: '95 Integra RS Sedan
Problem: I'm having a really hard time turning the key in the ignition. It will turn slightly sometimes but be really difficult to turn further. Sometimes it functions normally. You know how when you put the key in, and its sort of spring loaded and goes in a little bit, it doesnt always do that.

Question: Do i need to replace the ignition? Is this a common problem? And can it be fixed at home?

Thanks for your help as always

try spraying some WD40 in the key hole.. if that fails to do anything.. you just have to replace the key actuator i believe.

LOL Its the lock I guarantee it is, turn the wheel slightly in the opposite direction where it leaves a little space, hold it there and turn the ignition. If you can turn the wheel and its not locked, then you need a new ignition.

Yea, check to see if steering wheel is locked. Do not spray WD40 as that stuff will just dry up.
Also check the wear on the actual key. A buddy of mine has a 92 Teg and his key was just a bit used up. Got a new key and the problem was solved.

thanks for the tips guys...

i'm sure the steering wheel is not locked, as i've been driving this car for years, and the problem only recently came up...

i think its time to start looking into a new ignition... (i've tried 2 different keys and they're both giving me trouble)

Yes you can request the key and ignition from a car from a junkyard. go to b&d in oakville, they always have keys in the ignition. i have done this a couple times to some cars i have rebuilt in the past. you can also watch for part out cars and request it. such an easy fix. dont be lazy.
