Integra died in traffic, now engine won't turn. HELP!

so my 96 RS dies in traffic, as i was accelerating. had it towed to my driveway.

did some troubleshooting today, but still no luck.
it tries to start when i crank it, but engine won't turn.

there's gas in it.
battery is new, 2months old.
starter new, ignition and dizzy ok.
also replaced the fuel filter recently.
checked my spark plugs, all good, none are black.

i really don't wanna tow it to my mechanic, cause i know $500 won't cut it to get it back on the road, and i have a spare car for the time being.

what should i check next? i'm thinking fuel pump or injectors?

When was the timing belt done? Hopefully it didn't snap!

mechatune 10-16-2006 03:48 PM

well, i don't think it's the timing belt, cause the dizzy spins when i try to start it.

ok, it's not the fuel pump either cause i can hear it whirring still when i power the car on.

FuzzyLS BRO 10-16-2006 04:18 PM

hrm...that's a tough one...your sure it's getting spark and fuel right?

bbTeg 10-16-2006 05:16 PM

timing belt.

high-octane 10-16-2006 05:47 PM

check for spark and check the t-belt

WildoutWhiteGSR 10-16-2006 06:36 PM

-take off the valvecover and check if the timing belt snapped

-turn the key to the on position and listen for the fuel pump

mechatune 10-16-2006 11:59 PM

backonceagain, i don't know what u mean, but reading that made me lol.

if the timing belt snapped, then why does the distributor spin?

is that related or not at all? aha.

i'll open the valvecover 2morro. thanks for the input guys. keep u guys updated.

my guess is your fuel pump isnt working and the gas isnt coming through. If your timing belt snapped, well i feel bad for yea, i guess all i can say is start shopiing for a new motor

I was in the same scenario as you before...on my 95 LS...I towed it to my mechanic and found out the worst news..timing belt had snapped...:( ...time for new engine..

would u be able to describe the sound?

well if it is the timing belt and you keep trying to start it you do a wonderful job on your valves.

Dave YO 10-17-2006 05:12 PM

you dont have to pull the valve cover
just take the oilcap off and see if the camshaft is turning

sikkkkktegra 10-17-2006 09:27 PM

check main relay..

mechatune 10-20-2006 12:46 PM

the verdict: just a bad ignition coil. pheww.
i guess i didn't check for spark properly/read the multimeter wrong.

back on the road, and yea, it's due up for 2nd a timing belt/water pump job. pushing 330,000 kms already.
