Default Hood Latch and Cable

Hey guys, for the last few days I've been trying to get the hood to my teg open (94 DC2). The cable seized I think, any ideas on how I could get the hood open without ripping it off? I've tried to pull the release cable from under the panel on the drivers side near the fuse box as I've read has worked for a few people, but it's not working for me.. Any suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

well since pulling it is not working from inside the car you will have to find a way to get a hold of it with maybe pilers and give it a good tug. I dunno you gotta find away to get to the actual latch. Someone here will give you some advice shortly.

Yeah, the person who owned the car before me always used plyers to release the hood, but it sat there for a month or two, the battery died.. and the hood cable won't release it even if I pull as hard as I could lol.

if the hood latch is kinda loose and comes out real far, your cable is unhooked or broken (most likley unhooked). its easy to check both ends, and since you cant open the hood, start with the inside end.

The inside of the cable is still attached under the dash, but not to the hood release lever, that's how the hood was opened before.. by pulling on the cable with vice grips. I was trying to release the hood from under the grill of the car but pushing the hood lever up but it doesn't release the hood because the cable hasn't been pulled for it to pop up yet. The (maybe) hood cable I felt underneath the grill was lose feeling, it had a bit of give to it, should it not be that way?

I know the battery has nothing to do with it, the battery is the original problem though.. as the battery is dead.. and without being able to open the hood.. I have a dead car. lol

Try to see if you can get to it from under the car.

your only alternative would be to get at it from under the car and use something like maybe a coat hanger and pull the latch where the cable connects to also you might be able to access the 2 bolts holding the latch in place

this would work but it would be hard to get to the bolts that hold the latch since they are in the front which the bumper would block it...but the best way would be from underneath and use something to tug it along. GOod LUck.

Ok, I went under the grill of the car, hand up beside the radiator to the hood latch.. the hood release cable feels loose and wiggles around near the hood latch.. should that be happening? Also I could feel the latch and was pushing it up to release the hood like you would after you've pulled the cable.. but without pulling the cable first it doesn't seem to do anything no matter how hard I push the lever up.

You have to pull the cable to unlatch the hood. Just dont pull it in the wrong direction

the cable will have some play in it. The only way your going to get it open with the cable being fucked like that, is your going to have to pry up on your hood a little bit and unbolt the hood latch from the hood, it's the only way. We had to do that few weeks ago on a 2006 A4, it's a bitch trying to get a grill out with out the hood open, and then welding some tools together to make a long wrench to get in there.
