Had ITR dyno tuned. Too lean?!

Default Had ITR dyno tuned. Too lean?!

I have the standard I/H/E for my ITR and I had it dynotuned. At one point of VTEC, I noticed it is leaned out by 16% by adding the "vtec unmatched" and actual setting in wide throttle. Isn't 16% a little too lean? Am I calculating something wrong?

^^ You can't just pick an arbitrary value to lean it out. You need a wideband to see what the A/F ratio is. Generally, you can lean it out at WOT, but you still need a wideband to be accurate

It was dynoed at Dynopower and he used a wideband. Is it too late to ask for the af readings because I don't remember seeing them anywhere. He only gave me the dyno plot.

^^ Thats fine then. I am sure that you tuner used an appropriated A/F ratio at that point. Normally, you can get the printout that will include the graph of A/F. I would assume that its high in the RPM at WOT that your tuner leaned out so much.

Yeah, around 6000-7000. But around 8000 it richens up.

what did you use to "tune" it........if it was 16% too lean then why didnt you richen it up?

Not 16% "too lean". I mean it was 16% leaned from factory settings in the ECU, by using the VAFC at the dyno.

i dont understand what your saying..........how was it 16% to lean? 16% of what?

what was the air/fuel ratio while doing the dyno pulls? was the air/fuel graph smooth or did it dip up and down?

Do you have a VAFC? I have another post in technical area regarding the TPS sensor. I mentioned there that my dyno was erratic as well.

When you are setting the VAFC, you can either richen it up, or lean it out, from factory ecu settings. What I am saying is that it was set -16 from factory setting on the VAFC.

Did u get the updated install instructions off of the website? The ones that come with the older models are wrongly wired.

The one thing you need to keep in mind for neetronics, is that the hp/torque numbers you will get will be lower than the ones you received at Dynapower. This is because he is using a Mustang dyno instead of Dynojet.

I trust Jeff, he tuned my previous car with the VAFC. and he did a great job.

As for neetronics, its basically the same ----..... rather then using a vafc he using his laptop.

You can compare tuners as one is a master "Paul".. but I would'nt worry man.. Jeff is good.

Actually that is incorrect. he is using a homemade DYNO and it does not calculate HP and Torque, beleive me I know.

Sure it give a you a reading but its like 25 horses off ..

that why you only go to see Paul for safe tunning "making sure your car is running mint as far as a/f is concerned" and for power, you pay Paul a little bit more money and he will go with you to Jeff or any Dyno shops and he will fine tune "Set vtec. adjust timing "ignition/cams" ect.."

Unless you have serious work done to you car,.., VAFC is more then enough.. with I/H/E, there no need to spend big bucks on Paul.

Jeff owns it and is the sole operator.

As for his other bussiness its not for me to disclose. but he fully trained with everything he does. and the dyno is always kept up to date "calibration".

so you subtracted 16% of fuel using the AFC....meaning it was too rich from factory not too lean.

i would say thats normal......all honda's tend to run rich from factory anyway and a ITR would probably be more richer than any other..........

i guess it would be fine to use the VAFC if you just plan to stick with I/H/E mods. once you get into other more serious stuff the VAFC wont help you much......thats when you should pay a little extra to have the ECU professionally tuned.

There is only 2 shops officially authorised by Hondata to do the tunning.

I'm sure there are others that play around, but Neetronics and another shop in ottawa are the only ones fully authorised.

This is only refering to Ontario.

I've seen him work on 500 hp subys, ITR's, miata's, the whole gaumet. This was when his shop was right down the street from Home Depot in Etobicoke. I wouldn't be too scared of the dyno. He's a stand up guy.

Dude his homemade dyno is 10 times better then most dyno's on the market as his is controlled by him "amount of load per rpm". thats where the expertise comes in.

Your everyday dyno has auto load built in and its the same for every turn, as for Paul he controls it like the car is on the road. theres is nothing to be afraid of..

the only difference is that his is not accurate as far as HP/Torque and you wont get the pretty graph.

Paul always tunes the cars on the safe side "A/f" , you have nothing to worry about bud. You have no idea the cars he deals with ...

He does charge quite a bit but thats why earlier in my posts I mentioned if you dont have serious work then dont bother.

Well, I have just I/H/E but that being said, I rather be safe then sorry. I will go to Paul, I figure that since the mods are mild, it should not take too long to tune...
