grinding in third

question for all the teg owners .so im driving doesn't matter what speed gearing up or gearing down but as soon as i put it in third it grinds not hard but soft and grinds for like 2 seconds what could i do

should i just put syncromesh or.....................

mike_bohte Nov 13, 2007 09:34 PM

synchro's are gone man, synchromesh isn't gonna work.

Mine does the same thing. If I shift over a 2500rpm it grinds. If I ----- drive it its ok.. But it keeps getting worse and worse. 3rd gear is famous for this. Buddy of mine has the same thing in a jbody.
Replace your tranny. Thats what I'm going to end up doing

at this point, Synchromesh would not be that useful for that transmission.

You can either get another transmission as suggested, or you can have the transmission rebuilt!

There are several places to take your transmission to to have it rebuilt, including affiliates on TI. Shouldnt cost too much, when I did my type R LSD transmission I had my 1st, 2nd and 3 gear synchro's changed in favour of the carbon coated synchro set from www.gearspeedinc.com

And I was able to have them installed in my transmission w/ new bearings for a service charge of $200 from a very well known Honda performance shop.

Hope this helps

you might also want to check the tranny oil level if you haven't already done so. Sometimes the B-series trannies will grind and slip if your tranny oil level is too low

i put in syncrommesh still grinds looks like ill be putting in a new tranny
