Default exhaust question

hey guys my buddy has 2000 gs and has a aftermarket exhaust. i think a 2.25 or 2.5. we know he has to get a header in order to put that exhaust on, but we were just wondering, with a header, will he lose power at lower end due to no restriction of air?? he was just wondering wut adv/disadv he has with putting on a header.

You don't need to put a header on to install a catback exhaust. If you go with a 2.5" exhaust, if anything your going to lose power because there is not as much back pressure like there was before, and honda make power from the exhaust due to there size.

As for a header do some research on what he really wants a 4-1 or a 4-2-1. The 4-1 flows better and make a few more HP. But you also have to look at what companys make them, as some are designed for low end HP & TQ and outers are for top end HP & TQ.

Yeah ^+1, you dont need to put in a header in order to put the exhaust on, just slap it on as long as its made for your car itll be fine.

Personally id go with the 2.25 in, thats typically a good size for N/A tegs, any bigger and you may acutally loose power.

As for the air restriction and power loss with the headers youre going to have to do some research. Everyone has an opinion about back pressure and whether you need to have a little bit or none or whatever, but like i said get info from poeple that know what theyre talking about.

Team-integras has a nice article on back pressure myths and exhaust basics,

I can tell you that i have 4-2-1 DC ceramic headers on my b18b, put them on the same time i changed my stock exhaust to the ITR exhuast and there was a noticable power gain throughout my power band, though most significant gains were in midrange torque.

It all depends what motor you are running

as for the question make sure the exhaust will fit the current cat.
