Default Engine oil question

i use Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w-30 Synthetic oil 20,000km garanteed.

of course i still change oil every 3,000kms but i've only ran about 1800kms

well..maybe high rev once or twice everytime i drive =p

and now my oil level got pretty low. It was in the middle of 2 holes

but now its quite close to bottom hole but still in the range.,.

is the oil considered burning fast?

which oil do you use for ur itr?

what oil to use can be a debatable topic. Ive read that mobile 1 is ---- for various reasons, but many use it and swear by it. I think it varies from car to car. I was using redline 5w-30 before and that ---- is way too ------- expensive, not to mention i was burning a little oil. I switched to amsoil 5w-30 its still expensive but cheaper than redline. so far i havent burned a drop and its been 2,400km since my last oil change

i just read that mobile 1 is the most used oil when it comes to expensive cars like prrsche, mercedes and even the subaru STI uses this oil from the factory, it si supposed to be one of the best oils out there, so i dont really know the answer to your question but here is some relevant info for you

The synthetic oil will tend to burn faster from experience. Especially when you drive hard. Your oil is probably low because of the AutoX 2 weeks back but you should've topped it off when you saw it in the middle of the 2 holes instead of waiting till it reached the bottom hole.

I've been using Castrol High Mileage 10w30 for the past year. Its okay, but still burns up (but not as quick). My motor has 220,000kms on it, and boosted.

2 main reasons for excessive oil consumption:
Worn piston rings
Worn valve seals

I would say that 1 litre burnt for just 1800km is a lot. But im not sure why you would choose to use extended performance oil if you change it at 3000km ? Its still pretty much brand new at that point.

I chose to use extended performance oil because i knew mobil 1 burns fast
and i guessed if i use extended performance it might burn slower =p

and thanks integrajoe ~ that place sells Motul too =)

I use mobil 1 in my prelude and it burns quite a bit, but I also use it in my integra and it doesn't burn at all.

I used Castrol GTX 5W-30. Im afraid to go with synthetic because my engine has 230,000 on it. I do 5000km intervals and only burn about 1/2 liter with some vtec. I think im gonna start doing 3000km intervals.

check your engine bay area. i been burning oil too, found out that my head valve cover gasket needs to be replaced... Most integra after 180,000km should get them changed you will end up burning far less oil wit this done.

Has anyone used the Greddy Oil? It's made for Vtec.

Synthetic oil will burn more so you can try running either a thicker oil - try 10w30. 5W30 is good in the winter, but in hot weather a thicker oil is better. I've run oil as thick as a 15W50 Mobil1 and 20W50 Syntec and once up to race temps it acts like a 5W30. Only thing is you can't beat on it until the thermostat comes on, making that not a good choice for winter - ie don't use it in the winter. My favourite oil is still Castrol Syntec since it's by a lot of US drag teams are setting records with it lately. Castrol has always claimed more hp. I'm not a huge fan of Motul myself - since Syntec works so well and is cheaper - but some swear by it. Other thing you can do is try a dyno oil like Castrol GTX or the higher mileage oil. I ran both of those in my beater and oil consumption slowed with the GTX and stopped with the high mileage. My oil gets changed daily at the track on the track -----, so more often then not it's got GTX in it.
