Emission test question
I bought my bro a DA (automatic) for 200 bucks for him, everythings good on it, but it wont pass emissions. Everything on the list passed except "NO" by a long shot. Anyone know what I can do to fix this issue? I knwo there could probably be a million reasons, but any ideas would help. Everything else passed with flying colours thats why i was a little baffled.
there is some rad fluid leaking as well, i dont know if that may be contributing, i havent really ahd the time to investigate that issue just yet, been busy with school + work. |
bad cat?

Check EGR function... If its ok, then time for new cat.
Probably needs a cat though since you say the numbers are WAY off. |

well obviously i should be like u right?
why dont u start acting like the high pitch asian kid that u are and less like an e thug? :O yes ppl talk lol. |
i cant believe im sayin this but smartass is right. its got nothing to do with CAT. High NO means too high cylinder temperatures. Your running lean, either air surplus or shortage of fuel. Bvan your gonna get smacked for not listening to me.
jdmteg101 nice try, but the OP listed plenty of info. Lazy answers are worse than nothin at all. p.s Bvan... you just opened a can of worms lolol |

And Dumber The primary function of the cat is to scrub NOx emissions. |

Lazy answers are worse than nothin at all. p.s Bvan... you just opened a can of worms lolol Higher than normal NO can also be caused by high cylinder temperatures as you've stated. EGR serves to lower cylinder temps by re-burning some of the exhaust gases. Running lean is certaintly a possibility as well, but would likely also be represented in the other two gas readings. |
I'd like to see the numbers/limits for the idle and 40kph test while we are at it.
|
i will have it all posted later today, i dont have the sheet with me, im at Humber college right now.
|
tru. I skimmed through it and failed hardcore. Excessive NO could be caused by a bad cat but then again other stuff would be out of place.

lmao someone at the cruise said he was some skinny little asian kid! oh well. my mistake what i meant was high pitched little brown guy.
|
cut the exhaust, add another cat in there, put high octane in there and that other additive they sell in crappy tire, do test on HOT motor. cheapest way out of it without starting to mess around with complicated ----. report the results here
g/l |
im a little asian dude that plays sc!
|
try some methyl hydrate.
|
^+1 on that.
make sure car goes in HOT HOT....i talked to steve today about this he said go check ur pcv,and hose, if it has egr which your case it does since its auto, that can malfunction as well.. PCV, and hose EGR or CAT. |
the numbers on the failed test is as follows
Curb idle test HC ppm limit 200 my result 1 CO% limit was 1.00 my result .10 RPM was 776(valid) Dilution was 14.9 (valid) ASM2525 test HC ppm limit 66 my result 6 CO% limit .37 my result .07 NO ppm limit 757 my result 2327(FAILED PART) Rpm 2005(Valid) Dilution 13.5(valid) |

I ruled out the cat because the other results were fine. Im putting my money on egr or fuel system/air leak p.s. bvan id stop bro. unless he attacks you personally then no need to mention what that person said to us. |
ye im done lol. he meant SC(Starcraft) that game was the ---- back in the day. SC2 is gonna come out sometime soon... im buying that for sure.

|
hey did you solve this problem? i'm in the same boat.. only i'm failing nox by 300 points.. i just put a new cat on last week.. could it be o2 sensor?
|
headgasket was blown im just replacing the motor :S we'll see in a week
|
ouch. yea i replaced the o2 sensor and i passed :) i was running BRUTALLY lean.. thus the non existence of HC or CO but wicked high NOx..
|
damn bvan you got bad luck man
|
lol ye man this year was full of ----! hopefully the new year has much better things for me!
