Default Door Lock is Jammed !!!!

The drivers side lock (manual) is jammed. When I turn the key to unlock it, it will turn but it feel like I am pulling a rubber band (I dunno how else to explain it). Now I am stuck getting in through the passengers side and have no way of taking the panel off of the door while it is shut. Any Ideas???? Much appreciated.

Can you open it from the inside? If the key doesn't turn all the way it might just have some buildup inside if u like washed it or w.e. Just spray wd40 on ur key, shove it in and turn, and repeat until its good. Happened to my trunk its all good now.

Something broken on the inside of the door? Or is it just the cold?

Sounds like the door lock actuator is malfunctioning. Try taking off the door panel and check/clean the connectors and move the switch foe the door locks. Also the steel rods could be stuck but most likly its the actuators.

Try taking off your door panel you may have access to inside the door from there.

I was thinking that you may have to cut the door panels. Then see if you could get some other ones for cheap.

This is a terrible situation to be in. It's bad enough when my doors freeze shut/locked cause of the cold/wetness.

Any developments?

You very well sound like the linkage came off on the door handle side of it, mine just did that to me on friday on lunch time, and I was able to open my door at all, but I just the slim jims I have to open the door from the out side. I have to get a whole new lock assembly now, and they are not cheep.

Maybe a coat hangar can get it unlocked, or a slim jim if I can manage to find one. And once its open I can take the inside panel off and see what is going on.

**UPDATE**
So yea slim jim managed to turn the lock (I put the key in to see how far it goes) but it still has the same elastic type feeling, I did not force it too much so that the problem doesn't get worse. Now I am thinking I am going to have to take off the inside panel. I am just curious if it is possible to do with the door closed.

its not possible to do it with the door off. there is one bolt where your door meets the dashboard.

just rip the thing off. you can find door pannels everywhere for like 20$

No don't just rip it off, once you get the door open, you will see what the problem is.

Ahh can't get this door unlocked, tried multiple things with many different people. I am planning on just taking out the door panel so that I can at least open the door. I don't want to rip it off but I don't know what else I can do. Maybe I can do a clean cut where the linkage is so I can pull it manually for now. I really don't know, I will explore crappy tire for some tools I haven't tried yet, any suggestions?

try and pry out this part so you can get to the linkage and pull it manually

your gona wana unscrew this little metal box. the two linkages run through it. there are 2 gold screws that hold it in place. just unscrew it and slide it off.

Update***CAA was not help, they said I can get in through the other door so it is not an emergency....**** So after I managed to get the door panel out form the inside (what a pain) now I tried to pull it manually and it did not work, I figured out the issue though ( i think) sprayed some WD40 hopefully it will work now. ( I can open the lock with a long flat head screwdriver though, I might need to end up getting a new lock, not the key hole area, but the actual white piece)

Can lock and unlock now, but for some strange reason the lock gets jammed again if I leave it locked for a while :S, or if I pull the handle to open the door while it is locked.

I have somewhat of the same problem with my integra driver side door. I can't physically lock the door from the inside. The only way I can lock it from the inside is by pulling the handle as to open the door, and then move the lock to close.. i think there is pressure in the door locking mechanism from the power locks since my door no longer has power locks (Different driver side door from a 98 teg) so it's stuck that way. Whenever I try and lock my door without pulling the handle first it just immediately goes back to open.. kinda like springs back.. lol It refuses to stay in lock without using the key or the way mentioned above. It's not really a problem for me.. but hey.. would be nice for it to work properly. :P

^^^^ I think it's a good Safety feature to have you can't lock yourself out of the car since you can't lock it. I have this on my integra drivers side only. If I have the key in the ignition I can lock my door but if they are out I can't. I can only lock from outside the car which is somewhat of a plus.

nwarrior, I think i have the same problem as you had. I was just wondering if it is possible to replace the spring without removing the latch mechanism from the door and if not any advice on how to remove the door lock/latch to replace the spring would be very much appreciated.

You are better off removing the latch mechanism, but I did it without removing it. Here is what I used which is from Team-Integra.

SYMPTOMS:

The driver's side door lock will not unlock. Immediately after unlocking the driver's side door with the alarm, it locks itself. Using the electric unlock switch (silver switch) from either side is the same, it locks itself immediately. No matter how hard you push the manual lock (black switch with red mark), it won't move to the unlock position. Sometimes lifting the outside door handle fixes it, sometimes just waiting or trying it a million times works.

CAUSE:

The spring which holds up the release lever connected to the outside door handle is broken. Without the spring, the lever is not pulled up to its resting position, which can block the unlock lever from opening. We are going to replace the spring. If you can do this without removing the door lock assembly, you can skip the process below.

FIX:

1. Raise the window. Remove the driver's side door panel - one handle screw, door lever screw, plastic screw on top right, pop off panel from bottom.

2. Pull down plastic from upper left corner about halfway, just enough to expose the lower left bolt and door handle.

3. Unbolt the 10mm bolt in the lower left corner which holds the window rail. Wiggle the rail out now if you can.

*At this time, I noticed the rubber guide was forced down and torn at the bottom. This may be the cause of slow window movement. Honda's glue which holds the rubber on the rail doesn't hold it on anymore and is scarce at that. I used silicone to glue it back on. Now is a good time to let it sit and dry until reassembly.

4. Unscrew the 2 screws holding the door handle.

5. Remove the black plastic guard behind the metal rods. one screw holds the right side, and on the left side where it enters the door lock, press the top tab and it should pull out.

6. Disconnect the 2 metal rods from the levers on the main door lock mechanism (not the door handle). There is a white plastic thing at the end of the rod which keeps it from falling out of its hole. Pop up this white plastic thing and the rod can be removed.

7. Disconnect the electrical connector. There are two plastic holders which can be popped out.

8. Unscrew the door lock mechanism. There are 3 screws on the side of the door. Using a philips #2 or bigger screwdriver, tap the screws with a hammer a few times to unsieze them and remove.

9. Disconnect metal rod from outside door handle key mechanism. To see what is going on, pry off the 1" black rubber grommet on the upper left. With a flashlight you can see the rod is connected to the key lock mechanism by a white plastic clip. It is in the shape of a backwards "C". Use a flathead screwdriver to pry the clip open a little, then pop the rod off towards the left.

10. Disconnect metal rod from door lock mechanism. This is probably the trickiest part. You will see a metal rod going from the outside door handle down to the door lock mechanism. At the bottom, it has a vertical slot, and is held onto the door lock lever with a horizontal tab. on top of all this, there is a flat, round, metal lock washer. Use a pair of pliers with a flat top to rotate the washer clockwise 90 degrees. It will line up with the horizontal tab and can be pryed off. Take your time, this is tricky.

You can try screwing one screw into the door lock mechanism to hold it up while you play with the lock washer.

once you have the washer off, rotate the door lock mechanism towards you, turn it towards the left. Now, rotate the door lock clockwise 90 degrees, and the horizontal tab will now be lined up with the vertical slot on the metal rod. Remove door lock mechanism from the door.

*Do not adjust the outside door handle rod. If you twist it and adjust the length, you may keep the lock from unlocking or locking again. It needs to be in the middle of a given length. Leave it connected to the outside door handle.

11. find the 1" spring that broke off somewhere at the bottom of the door to put it back on. If not, find a 1" spring using your detective skills. How about a spare timing belt tensioner spring?

With the right side of the door lock mechanism facing you, you can see the two hooks on the right which the spring attaches to. The bottom end pulls up on the outside door handle lever. Put the spring back on. The loop on one end of mine is the part that broke, so I just twisted out another loop using some pliers.

*FYI this was why the door lock would not unlock. Without the spring, the lever doesn't return back to it's top position, thus blocking the door lock mechanism. This is related to the mechanism they've created to keep you from locking the door while the door is open.

12. You're all done! Install is the reverse of removal. The list price for this door lock is $101.19, so give yourself a pat on the back!
