I checked the thermastat
the top hose is warm and the bottom is cool
i'm still getting good heat from the vents hot but not burning

any leaks?

It's the thermostat for sure. I had the exact same symptoms and just replaced my thermostat and everything is OK.

At idle, it used to go up to normal temp, then when driving, the needle would drop and go to complete cold. After a thermostat and gasket replacement, coolant flush everything is good now.

+1 on the thermostat. had the exact same problem.

For clarification, the needle on the temp guage should not go down as you drive (on days like today)? At idle, the needle climbs up but when driving, it slowly goes down but never passes the lower white line. I was under the impression that it was due to the cold conditions for the past few days.

^^^ I assume your asking a question.

Well the answer to your question is, once the car is warmed up. Which is just before the half way mark. The needle shouldn't move. The reason for this, is that if the car gets too hot, the fans will come on. If the car isn't warmed up it will idle higher to bring up the temp and the thermostat will remain closed. If it remains open, your car will have a hard time staying warmed up. Unless something is wrong with the cooling system, the needle shouldn't move at all.

BTW, Honda DOHC thermostat is a bitch to get to. Especially the lower bolt.

worst case scenario, it's your waterpump but that's a little far fetched and i'm pretty sure it would be overheating instead of underheating if it were the case
