I changed my t-belt and water pump recently. The mechanic put in 50% water and 50% coolant. I asked him why is he doing that..he said all hondas have to have that!!
Now when i read the gallon (honda coolant that I bought). It said it is premixed and not to add water.

I have driven the car 400 km...and notice it takes a little while to warm as well as it runs little cooler.

Do I need to drain it? Also, if I do drain it, do I really have to open the engine block bolt? I am a little uneasy to do this!
What really pisses me off is that this guy is a certified mechanic!

 

Yea man he did he correctly.

You can buy just straight coolant which you have to mix 50/50 yourself. Or to make life easier you can buy it pre-mixed at 50/50, which you don't add water to.

So your mechanic did it fine.

 

if the jug said it was premixed, you now have 25% coolant and 75% water i suggest you bring him the jug and tell him it premixed. and have him flush the coolant out. your mecanic is probably old and old school when there was no premixed coolant.

 

wait...the same jug that the mechanic used to fill your car, was the same one you checked and said premixed???

I run 25% mix in my race car. Does keep your engine cooler. Even the 25% will lower the freezing temperatures of the coolant - with the mild winter temps we've had lately I don't think you'll crack a block.

 

water is better at absorbin heat then the antifreeze is...all antifreeze basically does it lower the freezing temp of the water and also has additives to help ur waterpump and rad last long then it would if u had 100% water...
50/50 is jus a general rule...i highly doubt theres any car on the road that has exactly 50/50 in it...noones perfect...mostlikely ppl r runnin 40/60 or sumthin like that...i think im runnin sumthin like that now too after i replaced my rad and lower hose...cuz my temp doesnt even go up more then a few bars unless im stopped for a long time...no heatin issues tho cuz it blows nice and hot...

open ur rad cap and see how green the coolant looks if its looks more clear then green then i would jus drain the rad itself and top it off with a 70/30 mix or sumthin of antifreeze/water..unless its pure water in there i doubt u need to fully flush the system and start from scratch..

If your not 100% sure, pickup some coolant test strips from CDN Tire. Their only about $1.99 and all you do it dip it in the coolant and match it with the colour on the chart.
