Thumbs down Car Wouldn't go in to gear!

Hello TI,

So this morning i sleep in for my doctors appointment and I had an exam right after, so i get up quickly nd rush out and start my car and i notice the clutch feels very weird, the clutch point was very low. ALOT lower than usual. I was lyke w.e i need to get to the doctors. I drive for maibe 30 seconds, and then I cant even put the car in to gear. So i pull over and look at the clutch fluid and it was empty! So i top it off, and it still wouldnt work. Being late enough I jam the car in to 2nd gear and get her bak home. and get a ride.

So i come back home and check it out, I pumped the clutch for about 30 seconds, and start the car and it goes in to gear. So i take it for a spin and it works just fine, the clutch feels normal too.

So i assume, I was unable to put it in to gear, because there was no clutch fluid circulating. If anyone thinks it can be another reason, please let me know.

Its apparent there is clutch fluid leaking, just by looking under the car, i do not see any visible leaks. Can anyone enlighten me where the possible leak can be from, and what i will have to replace.

My speedometer is not working, I have searched for many diy for replacing the vss, but no luck. If anyone knows a source, please share it with me as I would like to get that fixed asap as well. Also anyone know if the vss can be picked up anywhere other than the Honda dealership? and a rough cost estimate?

So as soon as i get my car driving, my cusins teg wouldnt start. So we get it a boost cable and start it, and it started fine, and we let it run for a bit for the battery to charge, for about 15minutes. We figure it should start this time. We turn the car off and try starting it, and it does not start again. So the car starts with a boost and everything is normal, but if we turn the car off it wont start. Anyone know if its just the battery that needs to be replaced or if anything else like the alternator needs to be replaced? if so how much would an alternator go for? There was no sign of a weak battery before todays incident.

Thanks in advise everyone. Appreciate any input.

this was one of the first symptoms i had before replacing my clutch..samething happened but more often so i had to replace my clutch..with your problem i have no idea if it just happened once and it worked fine after..also for the battery issue does the whole car shut down completely like lights and everything dont work either? if everything went off i think its alternator samething happend for my car just shut down while i was waiting to make a left turn and i changed my alternator for 140

could be a worn slave or master cylinder. very common in these cars. though it does seem a little strange it worked fine again right after.

but i would at least check those out. the slave is mounted right on the front of the motor in the space behind your rad, just follow the hoses back to it. the master is mounted just behind the clutch pedal, look for signs of rust, or dampness due to clutch fluid leaking. on the slave there is sometimes a rubber boot that you have to pull back to get a good look.

yeah alternator. sometimes even with a dead alternator you can have things still working like your warning lights cycling on ignition etc., there is just not enough current to provide cranking power.

I think it's the slave cyclinder it's right above the clutch pedal see if there is any visible leaks there. And don't drive it till you fix it that's my old tranny!!!! Lol. But that's most Lilly what is wrong with it.

As for the no start I think it's the battery cuz I once drove my car for like 20 min with a snapped alternator belt and took the juice from the battery. I think your battery is just not (putting out enough) lol. That's is my idea thou.

I took the car out today, and everything is working fine again. other than my clutch feeling a little different than normal. There isnt as much pressure in the clutch. I have a exedy stage one clutch, but it almost feels lyke an oem clutch. Can this be because I did not bleed the clutch fluid and just topped it off?

Since its working all fine now, is it possible it was just low on fluid and my slave cylinder is still good?

could have been low fluid, i guess. although my car did the same thing as you are describing before the slave blew. i would still check that anyways. i got mine for thirty bucks and installing it takes like five min.

if the clutch is that new then there is no reason for it failing.

oh... and one last note acuratepaul referred to the MASTER which is below the pedal. the slave is the one located on the front of the motor
