I have a 1996 Integra with a Clifford alarm system. Last night while I was going home, the alarm went off and I had to pull over. When I took the key out of the ignition the alarm was still going off but in a much lower tone. I kep pressing the button that would normally disengage the alarm but nothing happened. My GF's brother came by where I had stopped and he tinkered around under the hood, disconnected the battery and whatnot. I called a few friends asking me to turn the ignition quickly all the way back and forth five times to reset the alarm, didn't work.

After a while of further tinkering I also noticed that whenever I turn on the dash lights and headlights the alarm would go off louder. When I had the dash lights on I put my keys in to the ignition and the car started running. We took the car back to my place, but on the way there the alarm went off again, albeit much lower than whil I was parked. Fearing the engine would stop again, I drove as quickly as possible to get to the garage.

When we got there, the engine died again, this time it won't start even when I had the dash lights on. A couple of my friends came over and tinkered with it some more. They disconnected the alarm from the battery, changed the relay under the steering wheel, boosted the battery, unplugged the alarm system completely, and such. But still the car won't start. We noticed that the warning light when you turn the key in the ignition weren't coming on, engine light, battery light, etc. After a while we called it a night and they were stumped on what else to do. Anybody have an idea on what could be the problem?

If you don't have any lights coming on in the cluster, one of your friend most likely boosted the car backwards and blow the many power fuse. Open your hood and check the fuse box and find the main power fuse, if it's blown, you will have no power going to the car at all. I have replace lots of these at Acura from people boosting cars backwards.

Thanks for the reply! We checked the fuses, all were fine except one that was connected to the alarm wires and we replaced that. When I have the key in the ignition, I can turn on the dome lights, cluster (minus the warning lights), hazard, fan works, and deck works. Though we did lose power to the windows.

Check All the ground wires, because if 1 is lose, the engine light will not come on, and with a lose ground, the car will not start as well.

Will definitely look into that as well, I don't know if they checked that last night. Thanks again.

Thanks for your input! It turns out the ignition switch was done, we replaced it and the car is running again.
