Default Cannot get into gears! help!

I have ran into a problem as i was driving home in this horrible weather.. I came up to a red light and waited in neutral, when the light turned green i depressed the clutch pedal to shift into 1st gear. As i tried, it did not want to get in.. nor did it get into any other gears.

So i turned off the car and started it in 1st gear, once i did this the car started shaking heavily.. and i accelerated slowly to stop it from stalling. I drove home on small streets in 1st gear.. luckily i wasnt far from home.

I have looked at the master cylinder and there is fluid, not the greatest looking fluid though.

Just wondering if anyone had any ideas to what went wrong.. I was thinking it was the pressure plate not being disengaged?...

Do you have pressure in the clutch?
If the clutch is not coming back fully, try sticking your foot under it and bringing it up. Then try to get into gear. Could be master, if clutch pedal is not coming back, then possibly slave cyl.

Thanks guys for the response. I replaced the clutch master cylinder because it was pissing fluids.. and the secondary moves as the clutch pedal is pressed.

I have already solved the problem yesterday.. I got a hoist to use at work.. so i replaced my clutch assembly.. took me all day but yes it was the clutch that was wrong. The springs in the clutch were loose and a chuck came out of the clutch. Also the release bearing came out in pieces.

But all in all i have solved it. Thanks again for the replies.
