I was in the process of taking out my spark plugs today and the first spark plug I went to remove broke off. It broke off leaving the threaded portion with the grounding electrode inside the head. What came off in the socket was the entire ceramic portion of the plug. Does anyone have any ideas how i can this out without removing the head???

Be careful and use a strong vacuum and suck out the broken pieces - if you have to tape a smaller pieice of tubing on the end of the vacuum so you can get it into the hole. Also use some needle nose pliers and then try again with the socket.

 

i can see the ground tip that is connected to the threaded piece of the broken plug.. i took a hanger and bended it so it could fit down there.. it turns left and right so its not tight in there but i cant turn it left all the way to come out, i guess a part of the thread that is riggid and it stops it from turning anymore..
any ideas of what i could use?

 

that sucks.

go to ht and do a search under "broken spark plug", under the archived section. there are 6 or so informative threads there that will be able to help you out.

 

I can take it out for you in about 10 minutes.

 

theres nuthn in his cylinder. the top snapped off and the bottom is in the head. i think your gonna need to somehow drill it out or sumthn.

if the top part broke u still have the nut that is used to tighten the plug..loosen the plus of course u wont be able to take it off since the top part broke.

What i did when i dropped some plastic in there, was grab a hanger and make a hood out of it so u can pull it up.

Exactly - you should be ok as long as you get all the debris out of there 1st before taking it out.

 

if the part of the spark plug that the socket grips is still in there you should be good, if it broke underneath that and there's nothing for the socket to grip, then your going to have to drill it out and re-tap or get an easy out.

 

thanks for all the help and suggestions doods... but the entire threaded part is in there.. and the part for the socket to grip came out with the ceramic portion of the plug. the threaded portion isn't entirely stuck, i took a hanger and i bended it a bit and it turns but it just doesn't turn out all the way it stops turning at a certain point. i was reading on HT some people just took a flat head screw driver and jammed it in the middle and was able to turn it out. So im going to try that now.. i hope it comes out if not anyone wanna lend a hand and expertise to help me take off the head?

ok i got it out thank god!!.. i stuck a flat head screw driver and i slowly twisted it off. Had to put some crazzy 4arm force into it. i got some pictures of it ill have them posted up as soon as i upload em. thanks for all those who gave their suggestions and help!!!
