jamming a larger rotor on your car will not improve your stopping, or is this a just for looks thing?

My understanding is that with a larger rotor...you are increasing the surface area/contact patch of the pad...therefore increasing your stopping power by up too 30%.....think of it this way as well....try to stop a bicycle tire from spinning by grabbing the hub of the wheel.....you will burn your hand trying to stop it...now stop the tire from spinning by grabbing it by the tire...you can do it without issue. Point is that i believe its the same "leverage" principal at work with the rotor.

why wouldn't you want a larger caliper?

a big brake front upgrade can be done pretty cheap if you know where to shop for parts.

If you're just changing the rotor without changing the caliper, the size of the brake pad (thus, the contact patch to the rotor) will remain the same if you have the stock rotor or 20" diameter rotors. You can't just change the rotor - you need to change the whole "system".

Going to just a bigger rotor is as bad as going with slotted or cross-drilled rotors - it isn't going to do anything.

you can use accord wagon calipers(and brackets) and 92-95 prelude rotors gotta redrill the rotor to fit 4x100 and take a litle material off the caliper bracket

read this.

Can you lock up your brakes if you try?

you'd be hard pressed to put a larger rotor on without changing the caliper as well. the oem calipers are designed to only fit the rotors they come with. you will need to do some modifying either way. as Buff posted, i've done this swap a few times and it does help with stopping power. this would be a direct bolt onto your car with the redrilled rotors and machined caliper brackets.
