Default B20 vtec

Haven't touched my car in about 2 years now. Considering doing a b20 vtec. Already have a gsr tranny and b20 motor in play.

It's been so long since I priced out what I need and the cost.

Friend is selling me his sir motor for $200 bucks. the head is fine, but the motor doesnt work.

What is all the things i need to do before sending the parts out to a mechanic to do?

What's your budget???? Do you want to do it properly, or just the bare minimum???

I want a min cost, and option to expand. I like to always know the base price first.

My setup right now is
B20 - JDM
GSR Tranny - JDM
Stock LS ECU
Stage 1 Clutch
Hytech Replica headers
Skunk2 cat back exhaust

I also might be able to get a SIR block, with good Head. Motor doesnt work.

This site has very well detailed DIY step by step instructions with pictures:

Hope that helps.

I'm doing B20vtec and here is what I'm replacing:
-b16 water pump
-b16 timing belt
-arp head studs
-arp rod bolts
-piston rings
-crank main/rod bearings
-all seals and I mean ALL
-vtec conversion kit from golden eagle

Will be using this setup with a small snail.

Research does not equal spoon fed.

Yes the forum is for research, but by SEARCHING OLD THREADS, not making new ones. Hell type in on google b20vtec and see what happens.

^ Indeed.

Doing the research for my ls-vtec build, I researched for hours and hours a day for weeks and months, reading and reading and reading... It was only later on when there were a few things I could not figure out or find any answers for when I went to a highly respected and knowledgeable honda tuner and asked them some questions personally. I found out nearly everything I needed to know without even making one question thread.

But if you don't even know where to start, I can understand someone posting up for some help...

Because really...its more than just a parts list. Its a puzzle literally, and its been done SO often during the years that theres so much information online that you can search on google that will give you PAGES of just bottom end work, pages of top end, pages of everything really. So we cant really do the same and write page after page of information. Thats spoon feeding. If he asked "HEY, what do you think is better for build, LS bottom? or B20 bottom? or which head will be better in the long run?" THEN we could help.

Something specific, and not as broad as asking in general about B20-Vtec. But yes. Overall its read after read. Heres one ive read over and over and STILL i look to it every so often because its alot of research.

How To build a Reliable LS/VTEC - B20/Vtec

I have no problem in answering the same question 1000 times, by all means if someone asks a question here we can all help out don't just say do your research, some sites are reliable and some aren't maybe here we can post a link that we used and have helped us out. Everything on google isn't always correct and I have read through many threads regarding swaps and every write up is different...hell when I did my swap I had a print out on what to do and I didn't agree with how it was written up and went a whole different route and it still worked out for me.

So if we can help out help out!!! don't discourage people, people need guidance and that's why we have this thread for those reasons.

Ok, since there are people having troubles reading a site, here is the deal.
Minimum- B20v conversion kit, arp head/rod bolts, vtec water pump and timing belt.
Room to expand? Well you can re-sleeve the block, new pistons, rods, cams, cam gears, full head work including port and polish and bigger valves, valve springs/retainers.

What's your budget?

Ps. Running ls ecu on B20 isn't good and you aren't getting the full power out of the car. Go to Andrew and HiVelocity and get your ecu socketed and chipped with proper B20 software. It will feel like night and day. Trust me
