Default axle boot bands.

do i need to pull the axle out to properly replace the band? i got a set of raxles axles last may. the axle needed to be pulled last month to remove the knuckle. anyway, the axle was removed and it when it was take off the car, the inboard joint got separated from the spider, but we are able to pop it back in, but i need to replace the boot band, so i went to the autoparts store and picked up a boot just for the band.

anyway, i just looked under the car as i was going to replace the lower torque mount and noticed grease everywhere. the boot slipped off the inboard joint.

so do i need to remove the axle to properly install the new the band? i don't know how much grease is left in the boot and the inboard boot calls for between 120-130g of grease. the boot is kinda deformed again. should i contact raxles and try to get another band? (maybe theirs is a more precise fit for their boot.) i really don't want to go through pulling the axle out again..

crap. this sucks.

If your replacing the whole boot, that's not a split one then you've got to take the axel off again.

If your replacing just the metal strip that holds the boot on the shaft then I think you can get away with leaving the axel on.

i think the boot is fine. it's just a bit deformed right now, but no rips. i sent an email to raxles to see if there is a way of obtaining some bands...
