are they any good? i've seen even the hondata ones melt, would it be wise to just get a OEM one rather than running the risk of it melting with these supposedley "better" intake manifold gaskets? TIA

 

When it comes to sumthing like that, A gasket is a gasket.

It's not going to give you any kind of performance gains so i'd stick with OEM.

you don't need one, but you shouldn't be worried about it melting as long as your engine isn't running extremly hot.

Reason being the gasket is made of the same material the distributor rotor is. Same with the distributor cap, insulation for wires handles for cooking pans, etc.

It's called "Phenolic" or the orginal name bakelite. The real name of the type of plastic used in the gasket. Anyways if the intake manifold gasket is melting, you have other things you should be worrying about. Like the health of your engine.

I'd say grab it if it ends up being cheaper than a oem replacement gasket.

i've used one now for close over 1.5 years without any problems. And it actually does keep the intake manifold cooler than the stock paper gasket does. If anyone doesn't believe me, you are more than welcome to come for a rip in my car then touch my manifold. I know a few people using these IM gaskets and i've never seen any of them melt...even on high WHP turbo applications.

 

^what brand did you have? should i be staying away from the ebay versions?

 

i've got the imitation hondata gasket....not the real thing...as for what brand. Who knows. I've got all of mine from someone off of TSR/GTcars.
I stay away from egay versions of anything.

 

i use the real hondata one, after ripping in the car all day, IM is still cool.

I got mine for about 60Cnd (Shipped) maybe I little less. Don't remember. So it's a little expensive for a gasket.

And if you read you'll see i'm talking about gaskets vs gaskets not intake manifold "spacers" like everyone else is.

I decided to look at them and relised he's not just talking about a normal intake gaskets.A big hunk of material between yur intake and head isn't a gasket.

A gasket is alittle thin peice of crap manufacturers like to rape you on with pricing.

 

with the "spacer", do you still need the OEM gasket?

 

I'm pretty sure every kit comes with their own paper type gasket's.

Those spacers are pretty hard material so i can't see it being it's own gasket aswell.

The outlawengineering kit comes with a bunch of paper gaskets with thier kit.

 

nope, but you might need longer studs for the bottom. I know for sure you do when upgrading the gasket on a gsr.

 

I got mine from Napa auto parts. I didn't find any at Canadian tire. Plus the guys at Napa were alot more useful than the folks at CT.

 

Actually its called a HONADATA HEATSHEILD GASKET

and thats all you put in there, no paper or anything.

I'm using the outlaw engineering kit....its works REALLY well at keeping the intake manifold cool and it comes with all new hardware and gaskets.

only downside is that it cost about $100us.....but you are getting a intake manifold spacer, throttle body spacer, IACV spacer, with all gaskets and extended studs/bolts.

but if your looking for a non-VTEC kit you can forget it......they only sell kits for a B16 and B18C1 heads........

so......get a hondata one or something similar.
