Default After engine swap white smoke

Hey Guys,

I have just completed an engine swap b18b from b18b1 usdm.

Once I started white smoke started coming out the tail pipe. I leaked the oil and it was thick as hell. but before i leaked the oil i put in an engine flusher as the engine was sitting for a while and i want all the garbage out of the engine. I dunno if that was a good idea but its done now.

but again white smoke is coming out of the tail pipe and i dont know what it is, also i checked under neath the engine near the oil pan there was a little drop of anti freeze bright green so i know it is fresh. i can see where it came from but its there and continues very very slowly.

any ideas?

thanks

blown head gasket maybe, does it get worse when you step on the gas?

Thats a blown head gasket. like hotrodcivic said, if it gets worse once you step on the gas then its the head gasket. Also, does the car shake ALOTTT?

I got a guy in niagara that will do it parts and labour for 900$. its regular around 1200

Why does that sound so expensive?
My mechanic charges about $500 for timing belt and water pump, and that's half the step to changing the head gasket.

$900-$1200 seems to be a lot, then again, i'm bad with estimating.

Wow, I hope you are NOT paying $600 for head gasket...

By the well, you might as well change your water pump and timing belt if you change your head gasket. Your timing belt comes off, but not your water pump when doing a head gasket change, and if it wasn't changed recently, you might as well.

I agree with Clarkee, you may as well change the timing and water pump while you have it all apart, I did mine in my Civic and it only cost me $400 total, pump, belt, oil and antifreeze

^ I would love to do my own changes like that but..

1. I don't have the most important tool, a torque wrench.
2. A mechanic's lift. I'm scared of getting under those home garage ones after one of them broke when my pops was working on his van.

torque wrenches a re cheap enough, go to Princess Auto, as for the lift, get a set of jack stands, jack up drivers side and remove wheel, might have to remove splash guard as well, but either way, you're safe, everything else can be reached via top or side.

Yeah but cheap torque wrenches break easily and needs calibration rather quickly. I want a Snap-on or Mastercraft.

I have tons of jack stands, that's what broke so it makes me nervous. I put the wheel under the car so if it happens to drop, well, hopefully the wheel does some good.

43lbs is the torque spec if I remember correctly so a cheapy torque wrench would suffice for now till you get a MC or Snap-On, putting the wheel under id just good practice, I do it all the time too, there's really nothing other than the head bolts that you'll have to "wrench on" therefore the car shouldn't move, and by the time you're ready to torque the bolts, your wheel is on and the car is off the jack stands. after that it's just setting the timing and toy good, 16 degrees advanced if memory serves me, just make sure that everything is TDC

Wheel is def. the best practice. Princess Auto is an awesome place though, I'll pick up a torque soon enough. I did ask for one for christmas LOL

Head gaskets are a pain in the *** but not too bad to do, hardest part in lining everything back up TDC, if you're not getting White smoke then check your first chamber, pull spark plug #1 and see if it has antifreeze in it, if it does, you have a blown head gasket (sprk plug #1 is the one CLOSEST to the driver's side)

I leave my car on bricks. Lol

Do not get the mastercraft torque wrench. Its complete garbage. Also, it could be the headhasket or warped head or bad head bolts.

White smoke would be your head gasket for sure. If it was blue, that would be oil, most likely valve seal. A head gasket job is a 7 hour job, I know I've done them in the pass. I know my shop will charge $500-$600 cash for labor, and then the price of parts.

First off you should have not ran it on the oil that was in there god knows how old it is...my head gasket is gone too but i am not producing any white smoke i just have a leak between my motor and tranny. Checked around the motor and tranny after it has been ran for awhile and see if there are any signs of any leaks anywhere.

I leak coolant, donno where from.... I THINK the rad, but I had a overheating problem once when my rad blew... so over the winter i'm being safe and getting the head machined and redoing the headgasket... and doing timing belt and waterpump while i'm at it... I'm told to get a MLS headgasket, is that what factory was as well? (since its aluminum head and block)

I put in a brand new one... bought one from crappy tire and wasn't at all like the one I took out of the car, so took it back and bought one from acura, and what happened with my car was the heat would start to jump around (wouldn't actually overheat just started jumping around) and after a while, started leaking again! I noticed at one point the a/c compresser was pressing against the rad, which is why i'm debating it being that! i'm gonna be checking thermostat (removed a/c since it didn't work anyways)...

my friend I bought the car was in an accident and said the rad had a SLOW leak, after a pass at the track the rad went so he said fair is fair and bought me a brand new one... put in the brand new one, and after some passes at the track it blew... and when I checked I found out the a/c condenser had some metal parts sticking out, which in turn when the car hopped etc it rubbed up and down the rad busting it... so bought a used one smashed in the metal part and still seem to have a problem... my mechanic friends are a little confused and are said possibly headgasket to be having that problem...
