6x9 in car??

ok so here is my problem, when i got my car it didnt come with any speakers at all, i took the aftermarket 6x9s out of my grand prix and hooked them up and they are just sitting on top at the back..they sound like ---- becuase they arnt in anything but my question is does anyone have 6x9s hooked up at all? is there a way anyone has installed them by cutting something or should i just build a box?? i dont really want to go out and have to buy speakers for the rear as these are saphires and are 600watts each and sound great, lmk what you guys have done or suggest, thanks.

holung 12-25-2009 04:38 AM

the only thing i can suggest is use the privacy cover cut it out and build an enclosure under it

Spike 12-25-2009 07:31 AM

Just stay with the OEM size speakers.

1goodyr 12-25-2009 07:41 AM

i would but then i would have to but them and not really worth my time or money to buy good ones when i have them...just wrong size >.< i cant even cut into where the stock ones sit becuase these are still too big. anyone who if it would sound like crap if i made a large box for them and put them in the trunk? :S

JDM_overdose 12-25-2009 10:13 AM

I have 6x9 speakers in the back of my 1990 teg and 2001 teg. Same brand in each car. No problem

Spike 12-25-2009 01:36 PM

They will fit in the back spots on the DC's you just have to remove the oem bracket aswell, and then figure a way to keep them from moving, the fronts they will not fit, and it's not worth it to try to make them fit. There's just some things you just spend the money and get the right parts, and the fronts are it.

1goodyr 12-26-2009 07:25 AM

ya i will be buying new speakers for the front, but i want to get my 6X9s in the back, JDM do you have any pics of how yours are put in?

AcuratePaul 12-28-2009 11:03 AM

Ya i have also have 6x9 in the back...i had to cut the oem bracket to fit it in...also i cut 2 brackets on each side to hold them stredy...i had to remove the whole panel to work on them thou which was a bitch.but they sound great. but this is in my DC.

1goodyr 12-28-2009 12:19 PM

could you guys post some pics of what they look like please? just so i get the idea of how they sit so i dont hack the ---- out of it and screw it up lol

JDM_overdose 12-28-2009 02:11 PM

I can take a pic but it wont be clear because I really dont want to take my seats out and take the side pannel out.ill take a snap of the cover off. Its really cold. Ill c what I can do.

What i did was take out the black foam that supports the speakers. Only 1 screw is holding the speaker in place. Only 1 screw can go in, because its 6x9, the dimention of the bolt pattern isnt aligned with the speaker. You can make a bracket by welding it to the inner frame and make a hole in the bracket for a bolt to hold the speaker. But mine are just resting on the frame and they havnt moved yet.

AcuratePaul 12-28-2009 11:47 PM

ya mine is like overdose's i had only 2 screws that holds it in im made 2 brackets from sheet metal and it holds them great and dont move.

1goodyr 12-29-2009 04:52 AM

any pics will be great guys!! i just wana get a bit of a visual idea before i do anything, iv been looking around the net too, seen other people with it done but cant seem to find any pics, seems like a myth lol.
my 6x9s magnets JUST BARELY fit in the holes for the stock speakers so im gona have to do alot of chopping

1goodyr 12-29-2009 11:27 AM

Also, when and or IF i do get them in there, is there something i should do inside the towers?? iv seen other posts about this topic that iv found and people are saying something about separating the front and the back of the speaker for more bass?? what is that about could someone explain this to me?? im not very good with audio lol.

AcuratePaul 12-29-2009 12:17 PM

i would love to take pics for ya but dont got my car and like overdose said you have to take out the back seats and the side panels to really see what you gotta do.

Its really not to difficult just add some reinforcements to the speaker 2 brackets should do. and the thing about separting the speaker i have never heard of that before.

JDM_overdose 12-29-2009 12:52 PM

Seperating the speaker is really stupid. Might as well buy a 10inch subwoofer.

You dont even need to make brackets. Just one screw will hold it and rest the speaker on the inner body.

1goodyr 12-29-2009 01:11 PM

ohh ok lol i was a little confused at to what they were talking about aswell :S
but today isnt snowing or anything and its pretty decent out so i think im gona rip ---- apart today :D
ill go take pics right now, itll be a mission to fit these speakers in -_-

That's a DA for you, the DC's are beside the rear seat.

JDM_overdose 12-29-2009 02:31 PM

OHHHHHHHHH. your putting it in a DA.

Simple, just put it on an angle. it will rest on the headrest of the seat. Dont even have to put a screw in.

Whats aith all the foam stuff.

AcuratePaul 12-29-2009 05:55 PM

I thought DA's were similar to dc's lol wow that easy then.

JDM_overdose 12-29-2009 06:49 PM

Im kinda bored. Im gonna go ripout all my rear interior and clean it. Maybe ill weld some custom strut bars.

If anyone needs rear mint DA seats, side interior pannels. seatbelts ect...msg me

AcuratePaul 12-29-2009 10:42 PM

lol you serious anthony...i have done that once just torn out the whole interior in the back and cleaned it up...so much crap there. You dont need to weld struts can pick up good ones for 30. the one i have came off a DA.

AcuratePaul 12-30-2009 01:07 AM

JDM_overdose 12-30-2009 01:33 AM

I love the interior of the DA. the DC interior is to round-y. the DA has a nice sleek look. and dont hate on me, i own a DC too lol:P.

yeah for a DC, its 6.5 all around
im pretty sure its the same for the DA

Spike 12-30-2009 11:00 AM

Yes the speaker sizes are 6.5" but the location of the rear speakers are different.

RedTegra 12-30-2009 04:47 PM

DA speakers are 6.5" around.
i prefer how the DC speakers are located on the side of the backseats, i dont like them near the top.

AcuratePaul 12-31-2009 01:06 AM

well DC's are suppose to be 6.5" all around but with little mods you can put 6x9 in the back. Simple.

1goodyr 12-31-2009 11:58 AM

i had them just sitting on the top on a slant b4 but it looked like ----, i cut them and now they sit flat in there, doesnt have any bass really tho i gotta seal around the speakers still but it looks better.
