Improving stock Type R Exhaust

I recently acquired a DC sports Type R Cat Back exhaust. Does anyone know if swapping this with my stock Type R exhaust will improve/detract from performance???

I believe it would help if you clarified whether you meant the type R muffler?

If you mean the entire exhaust system, then sure it would make a difference, which is better is up to the dyno/butt dyno to prove!

Thanks Dave, It would be a DC Sports Cat back, so the pipes past the cat plus the muffler to replacethe same on the Type R....I wouldn't be changing out the header.

Um...what size piping and what engine do you have?

Majortom 07-04-2011 07:23 PM

Thanks....Not sure about piping size. The car is a 2001 Type R , unmodified to this point. The DC Sports Catback is designed for the Type R, but I'm wary of swapping it in if I'm gonna lose any low end torque. I'd really like to see some unbiased test results (if any exist)???

Um stock itr catback is 2.35" I believe. So if you gonna change the exhaust, make sure it is bigger. 2.5" would be most optimal from my understanding and from talking to few tuners. You probably won't even feel any low end drop, depends how sensitive your butt dyno is lol.

But in the end of the day, you replace a catback from 2.35" to 2.5" and yet still keep the oem 2.25" collector header??? It will be restricting as much power as it did before the exhaust swap.

Grab a header with a good flowing 2.5" collector and then match the piping size to the back. If you don't care about etest, straight through cat to accommodate the exhaust gas flow.

Just my 2cents.

Thanks, DTP. I'll prob go thru with the swap ...I'm mostly concerned with not losing anything vice making any gains here(for the Type R)

Your gonna laugh at the reason: Originally installed the Catback on wife's GSR (same part# as for my TypeR) as her stock muffler was shot...I'm in the doghouse as she definitely dislikes the new..er..exhaust note (what was I thinking).

Want gains? Get higher lift cams and go for dyno tune.
