92 bad idle problem

hey guys i have no idea whats going on here i have a 92 teg b18a and the idle is going from like 1000 up to 2000 and then it sounds like its going to die and then goes back up to 2k and down again and over and over again now ive cleaned the iac valve and its still doing any other ideas all help is appreciated

When was the last time you did a tune up? And have you ever cleaned you throttle body? Fuel filter age?

Also, try unplugging the iacv and see if the idle settles down. If it does, then you either need to clean it again or its not working.

i have unlpuged it and it goes to like a lumpy low idle and i just bouhgt it im also reading a 43 code on the ecu and that fuel something so could that be the fuel filter?

I have this with my motor it is prob the throttle body

i have done a couple more things i have cleaned my fast idle thermo and unpluged the ecu twice let it sit for a minute and pluged it back in now i have it down to were it stops and idles normal after idle for like 2 minutes

Does it do this when its warm too? Or just on cold start?

92teg-gs 07-09-2010 01:07 PM

just when its cold then it slowly the difference in rpm gets smaller and smaller
but if i unplug the ecu its stops for a couple fo minutes and then does it again but i think i hvae found the problem i think it might be an o2 sensor

92teg-gs 07-09-2010 03:35 PM

what do you think?

Try cleaning your FITV, here is a link:

It can be the O2, but depending on which one if the O2 is bad you would get a CEL.

92teg-gs 07-09-2010 09:01 PM

ya i get the cel and thats what im thinking but i also have to weld up a split in the exhasut at one of the bends and someone said that the hole can throw it to

already did that but i have another engine in my garage and i cleaned the one of the spare motor and went to bolt it up and it was completly different the one bolt hole was off by about an inch and there both b18a1's

That's strange, if you are really desperate you can try Seafoam but read up on it first there are some risks. It could be that something is blocked, again that is a last resort I don't know if that would solve the issue.

no i dont think anything is blocked because want its heats up its fine so im going to try the o2 sensor and ill keep you posted

How did you clean the IACV? Did you actually take it off and spray it down with throttle body cleaner? Maybe try replacing it?
