ok im looking for rims right now, and im wondering should i go w/ colour i want or should i get any colour and just powder coat to colour i want???

also how much is powder coating i hear so many different costs.... ranging from 40-200$ per rim....


also origional manufacturer colour vs aftermarket powder coating??

advantages vs disadvantages which is better...

Have no idea. I just re-spray mine every spring with a fresh coat...lol.

 

I thought about re-spraying a set of rims I just picked up, but I would prefer to clean them off and get them coated.

They look like they were touched up before.

 

sand it all down and spray it yourself.

What type of paint stripper did you use? How long did you leave it on to work? Your rims came out great btw!

My issue with spray painting it, is that it will not last as long as powder coating. I powder coated a set of rims, and they were flawless for the 3yrs I had them.

I just bought a set of rims, and the previous owner spray painted them I'll more then likly drive on them, but if decide to do a colour change I should do it now before march comes around and decide I can't wait any longer to put them on.

 

the paint stripper was given to me by my neighbour who got it for free from freightliner. all the nozzles were clogged and he was gonna toss out the whole case.

the longer you leave it on, the better. the hotter it is outside, the better. i did about 4 applications.

paint never lasts as long as powder coating but with good prep work, good paint application and clearcoat it should last quite a while. i painted my rims almost 4 years ago and they still good great.

 

Damn. I should have just used paint stripper.

I sand blasted mine. Very messy and took quite a while to do all 4. (lots of spokes lol)

But yeah, proper prep-work, lots of thin coats (let each coat dry) and it should hold up nice.

 

Nothing is better then a DIY project. Just take your time dont rush and they turn out fantastic!

 

my steelies turned out mint! Some / most of you on here have seen mine, and they came out amazing.

I bought a new set of rims, but i'm looking to perhaps powder coat them this year, i found some reviews of shops in the gta, charging about 4-600$ for the whole set. I think i'd rather just take my time and do them by hand in my garage again. Not looking to spend more on paint then i did on the rim itself.

I want to add that i used the behr paint stripper from home depot. about 9$ a can, and used 1 can for all 4 rims. Worked amazing, remember to use gloves! I felt s-m-r-t and used it with my bare hands.....stupid. ---- burned like hell.
