Default B16 Tranny

So I just finished everything that needed to be done with my Teg. The biggest thing would have been the B16 tranny swap. So I finally got to drive it today. Every gear feels really smooth but the only problem is 2nd grinds if its above 3000rpm. Is this the syncros? The syncros in my last tranny were trashed too but when I shifted it grinded no matter what the rpm was and it was hard to shift into gear. This tranny grinds only in 2nd but it is still smooth to get into gear. I adjusted the clutch cable and its all good. I put new Honda tranny fluid in there so thats good. I dont know if there is anything else I can check. I just hope its not a syncro problem bc thats just a disease, once it starts it ------s to other gears and its a **** off. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks.

If the clutch feels fine and it doesn't grind in any other gears then I'm sorry to say but it is the synchro that is getting worn out. First and second gears use the same synchro ring, so you can expect to see some more difficulty getting into first while rolling slowly.

Can always try the GM synchromesh fluid. People have had some amazing results, me personally didn't see any improvement on my old car. I guess if its already worn, you can only cover up the problem so much...

Ok, well is there anything I can do to prevent it from getting worse? Like obviously shifting at a low RPM so it doesnt grind but what about like putting it in 1st or 2nd while rolling? Does that hurt the syncros? Thanks.

It won't hurt the synchros while rolling but it will/could be difficult to put it into those gears.

It will be difficult, but from my knowledge you risk bending linkages in the transmission if you try to force it into first while rolling anything more than say 10km/h.

Syncromesh does wonders for fixing minor problems, but if you have worn syncros, you have worn syncros.. and you're only fighting the symptoms and not the problems. But, given that a tranny flush will cost you nowhere near what transmission service will, I'd say give it a shot. It might help, and hell it might be the difference, but it's still worth trying.

I'm told that the new Honda MTF is significantly thinner than it used to be, making it not the best choice for older Honda transmissions, been hearing mixed things with it.

Nothing but good things about Syncromesh on the other hand. So there's my vote.

Good luck! Let us know what you decide and how it goes.

Pretty much, yes. Or order some through your local mechanic shop if they can get it.
