Default Anyone ever had their timing belt snap while driving???

Hey guys, need your help. I was driving today on the hwy roughly at only 60km, and my engine died. i'm almost positive it's the timing belt....anyone had this happen and what did you do and cost to fix it other then replacing the belt...i heard when that happens your looking at major repair on the motor.....

I had it happen to me with my 1990 honda accord last year. Replaced the whole motor $900.00. No problems since then

did you pull off the timing cover to see if the belt snapped or skipped? it could be one of numerous possiblities like your coil, ignitor, rotor, dizzy... etc.

no i got it tolled to my machanic. it died on the hwy and i starting to start it but it kept making a zeezz zezzz noise. i think it is the belt....i asked the machanic and he said it could be the belt for a like a power thing???? but he seems to think it's the belt....i'm just worried its more then the belt, like internal and i'm ending up paying to get the belt replaced and then thats not all........if only i knew all the promblems i could look into getting a whole used motor...might end up being the same if not cheaper...i dunno..stressed

i hope its what you saying though!
whats the average cost to replace a belt?

i dont think u can replace timing belt for 300-400. y can ur machanic tell u wats wrong with the car? if the timing belt did snap theres a good chance it might damage the internals. but ya do check ur coils n dizzy etc. i think most of the time those r the things to go

not keeping up with regular maintenance is one possibility and abuse is another.

Fun stuff... this happened to me... LAST WEEK!

I was rushing around town in my beater, running some errands when I lose all power to the car. I pull to the side of the 407, try cranking it and just hear a weak whining noise... boo-urns.

Timing belt snapped, previous owner lied to me about the t-belt and wp getting changed 40kms ago. Oh well, can't do anything about it now... good thing it's a B18B, lots of clearance, no damage to the motor.

Totally sucked because it was the night that I had to leave town!

Yeah tell me about it... in a way, it was perfect timing because I didn't have to come back and shovel the roof of my car haha. It was being stored indoors at the shop.

how can you not do a timing belt/wp for 300-400?
if you're paying more than you're getting ripped off, if you're paying less, its probably aftermarket parts.

do you not have to pay for diagnosing?
there's labor involved in removing the timing belt checking distro and what not.
if you take it to acura, they charge i believe 50 bucks an hour. so 500 is correct under the circumstance that he did not know what was wrong.
if you call around and your car is running perfectly already, than it'll be around that price.
