Default gsr motor and itr cams

I'm just new here but I've been to a couple of your meets.

I just need an opinion on something, I have a GSR motor and I'm thinking of getting ITR cams.

What else do I need to make this work with my car?
What would I gain by changing the cams?

Thanks

i think you gain some high end power with them, however you'd also want to use an ITR intake manifold with it and perhaps an ITR ecu or tune your car to those cams. they would also work alot better with a compression increase.

at the minimum get a chipped ecu with a proper basemap for the setup from a reputable ecu chipper/tuner. also get a set of itr intake valvesprings and move your gsr intake springs to the exhaust so you don't float a valve so can run your redline higher to make more use out of the cam's powerband.

you see gsrs with ihe w/itr cams properly setup peak at 170-175.....

Thanks for the response guys.

Ok well I heard getting Skunk 2 Stage 2 cams is good as well.

Would I still need to get all the stuff fuzzy said to make full use of the cams or do I have to get better than itr stuff?
Which one would be the better buy itr or I could wait and save up for Stage 2?

with stage 2 cams, your going to need aftermarket stiffer duel valvesprings and retainers to accomadate the much larger cams. once again, to reach full potential, your gonna want to get the single stage intake manifold aswell. it would also notice good hp gains with a quality header and cat-back exhaust, but what would make the most difference is doing a compression bump. swapping out your GSR pistons for some ITR even CTR pistons along with the cams will make very nice power. but to make everything work wonders, get a good tune, that's where you will get your motor running right and at full potential safely.

by basically slapping the skunk2 cams in your car, what your doing is over camming the motor, basically, howmuch compression you have should be matched by how much lift and duration your cams have. so if you jump to more agressive cams, then a rise in compression is needed.

with anything more than a stage 1 cam you WILL need aftermarket valve springs/retainers. To use stage2 cams it's recommended to have at least 11:1 static CR. I would definately get all of the bolt-ons before thinking about changing the cams/valvetrain.
ITR cams are a good choice for a relatively stock setup for a little more umph.
If you change your cams you definately need to get it tuned, for both maximum power and safety/reliability's sake. Send me a PM if you need some tuning done.

Make sure you change your intake manifold. Get a skunk 2 or JG if you have the cash. You need that single stage vtec. When you change your cam make sure to change your valve springs. Might as well get cam gears since you are opening your head.
