You may have air in your coolant lines. best thing to do is take the cap of the rad WHEN ITS COLD and start it. Let it run till it warms up, WITH THE CAP OFF. since the cap is at the highest point in the coolant system any air bubbles will leave. JUST REMEMBER START THIS WHEN THE ENGINE IS COLD. DONT OPEN URE CAP WHEN ITS HOT IT WILL BURST OT AND SPRAY YOU. Try that, that should solve the problem.

or you can open the pressure release valve with a 12mm wrench while it's still running. it on or near the thermostat housing. open it slowly and just enough to let the air out.

Might be leaking (The rad). Mine did the exact same thing I was loosing coolant and topping off very often. So yeah if you're loosing coolant most chances would be that its leaking either through the rad or one of the hoses.

I thought I was the only one. Mine does the exact same thing. I am pretty sure it's air in the system. Recently my car was overheating and i pulled over and opened the bleeder bolt. It spewed steam/air for a good 5 min. Then I filled my coolant reservoir bottle a couple times to get more coolant back into the system. So far so good.

BTW, does your heater blow cold air when the car overheats?

so you have replaced the thermostat? the rad is full? and has been run with the cap off while squeezing the rubber hoses to remove air? correct?

Did you try flushing your rad? I did and it worked for a while. But thats prob because i did it myself. Take it to a shop and have them do it.

It can apear "full" and still have a large quantity of air in it...possibly causing your problem. And flushing your rad is also a good idea as stated above. It cleans out all the built up garbage.... a quick search will reveal how.

Also just double check the rad fan. If they aren't working properly they could cause the temperature to rise when the car isn't moving and there isn't as much air going across the rad, and cool down once the car starts moving. Just check to make sure its working.
