final update: FINISHED WHEELS (for now)
teaser.. but wait.. no more to come :D
not yet.. until they are done. yes i'm keeping the teg. you all know i couldn't part with her :p http://everchanging.org/gallery/2005...1@21.16.18.jpg APR 8: so i started sanding the wheels down.. taking too long so i look over.. mmm random orbit sander :D took 120 grit, then 220 grit.. and i really love the texture it leaves on it's own, so i'm not going to smooth it out and polish it as first thought.. as i really like how it looks, and hide's blemishes better since it's just raw sanding :D here it is after 220 grit random orbit.. so far oh.. and they are 15".. as most could tell due to my wtb 15" tires :P and the studs shown originally are not being used, i have other ones going in and the wheels are made by prime http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...8@13.38.46.jpg MAY 2: so here's the latest update again.. almost complete the wheels :D since i got my new tires for them, gotta get em done! here's some pics from the start until now originally from back in nov/dec '05 http://everchanging.org/gallery/2005...1@21.11.24.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2005...1@21.13.46.jpg studs that i was originally going to replace with... from dec 8th http://everchanging.org/gallery/2005...8@11.05.06.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2005...8@11.05.52.jpg i was going to paint the spokes black, but leave the lips polished, and have the black studs.. of course i changed my mind.. here's some random orbit sanding that i thought looked neat http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...8@13.34.08.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...8@13.34.18.jpg well not going to keep them with that texture anymore.. and last couple days i've been working a bit more with sanding everything to be prepped, and i filled in the stud holes.. i sure hope tomorrow is a nice day 8) http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...2@15.02.34.jpg and here's after sanding them.. you can see the before on the right side of the pic http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...2@15.31.48.jpg and here's how they look with a bit more smoothing.. last step before the final :P http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...2@18.02.38.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...2@18.02.46.jpg and i will update once they are all finished :D they are made by prime they are 15x6 +35 offset 14lbs each made in 1991 MAY 3: so here we are, finally just went and painted my wheels.. this is how they'll be for now, we'll see how it all holds up :) wrap it up http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@12.25.52.jpg paint it red! http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@14.05.46.jpg masking removed.. mmm red http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@16.11.12.jpg oh wait, more masking and painting black 8) http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@16.52.20.jpg and with clear coat... http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@19.38.02.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@19.38.22.jpg ok lets remove all masking, and just let em dry :D http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@19.54.16.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@19.54.38.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@19.54.50.jpg and the result a bit farther back.. all 4 http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@20.00.16.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...3@20.00.08.jpg so all in all, i'm happy.. a lot of blemishes (due to the fact i don't have a controlled paint area, nor garage/etc.. was all done outside) bugs landed on, dust, dog hair, etc.. i tried to get as much as possible, but i'm just leaving it now.. screw it and as a perfectionist, it's taking a lot not to strip it all and start again :P you can only see crap up close anyway :) phew.. one project down :/ |
personally i would have kept the studs...even tho they are fake 2 peice...it gives it a old school look...but i guess to each their own...
good work so far...get it done :yeah: |
i kinda went back and forth with it..
and the studs i got that i was going to replace with didn't all fit, so i'd have to do a bunch of drilling, and jb weld, and polishing, etc... i'm painting, and the studs just wouldn't fit with how i'm painting them and if the weather is nice, they may be very close to being done tomorrow ;) |
i would've just bought rota slipstreams. i foresee elbow pains in ur near future.
|
elbow pains?
the main bulk of the sanding was with a random orbit sander.. and i don't think i could have bought slipstreams for $150 (not each, for all 4) |
good work, let us know how it turns out
|
oh snap! i failed to read the random orbit part.
good work, i thought u took those studs of by brawn. what's next? paint? |
that look pretty sweet
|
i like those rims, plain, old skool, still nice. but what i personally would do, is polish the inside spokes, paint the line where the bolts are black, and polish the outer lip. i'll do a quicktime ms paint chop to show what i mean.

chip fOOse got nothin on me!!! jk
Attachment 23661 here's what i came up with, a little different, but you get the idea, i had to save the image as a bitmap for some reason, but ya. if they were 16's i'd be all over those rims like a fat kid on cake. :D |
bump should be final update.. posted above, nice long thread 8)
and fuzzy i did a ton of chops to figure out what i want.. i left the stud holes not completely smoothed.. so later if i want, i can still strip it all and do something different.. and put studs in if i want (it's just bondo aluminum filler, easy to sand/drill out) which i'll likely change it in the future, but this is it for now :P |
:yeah:
