tie/sway bar.. so it happened.. bolt busted :) UPDATE
i got the tie bar & sway bar off gtscott.. figured i would try to install, and if a bolt or two breaks i will just replace them (since i'm not driving the car yet anyway, i have some time)
i'm going from a 14mm stock sway bar to a neuspeed 19mm sway bar and also adding the spoon tie bar here's some pics of the work done.. so far ;) stock setup http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@11.14.40.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@11.14.52.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@11.15.32.jpg removed brake line bracket http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@11.32.32.jpg removed stock sway bar (end links still attached) http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@11.57.58.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@11.58.14.jpg here's the comparison http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@11.58.42.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@11.58.50.jpg removed the brackets off the brake line altogether http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@12.29.34.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@12.30.24.jpg tried to remove the end links.. uh oh, bolt broke. http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@13.06.52.jpg might as well try the other side... to no avail, another broken bolt :) http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@13.07.08.jpg the bolts.. :( http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@13.18.22.jpg hey check out my rear brakes! :) http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@13.07.18.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@13.07.26.jpg and i wanted to test fit the 5 spoke se wheels, see how the colour fit.. decided i like this and am not painting them. WHEEL GAP! :P http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@12.52.36.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@12.52.52.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...9@12.52.58.jpg i also did an oil change on the cav.. no pictures :D i have a feeling the lca bolts are gonna snap too, so i'm just going to get new ones.. and put anti-seize on all the bolts before reinstalling fun day :D |
Damn Jesse...you've been busy!
|
damn, that's a nice sway bar, for the broken bolts, just drill them out and stick a new bolt and nut in there and you'd be good to go.
|
ah i wasn't all that busy.. should have been an easy install, had the bolts not broke
i think i'll get new lca bolts too, just to be on the same side, as i haven't gotten to taking them off yet :D i have a screw extractor, unfortunately i don't have time to use it on there to get those out, so that's another day.. and i have gtscott to thank for the tie/sway bar combo :) (and the wheels lol) i've also been busy due to the fact i haven't really *driven* my car since oct 2004.. so i'm working to get it prepared for getting insured (hopefully by end of may), and getting it out on the road! |
Holy crap, why is your underbody so rusty? Here's my '94 teg during my ITR swaybar install. From the looks of your rear brakes, I'd say your car sat outside without protection for a long time
http://www.wardphotography.com/temp/IMG_2661.JPG http://www.wardphotography.com/temp/IMG_2662.JPG |
yes it has sat outside since oct 2004..
i started it up and drove it around block for around 10-12 months until fuel started leaking, then it was getting cold again and i didn't have a place to fix the lines, so it sat another winter outside not getting started but it was lack of undercoating from previous owner that did it.. sitting in one spot doesn't do much but allow the rust to ------ a bit the pads/rotors i knew for sure, wasn't a surprise.. the underside though needs some work.. new sway bar is a good start, and once i replace my fuel lines i will get it undercoated for the future |
yeah dude my car is rusty as ---- underneath too, and its a daily
|
i sprayed releaseall over the bolts.. both the ones for endlinks, and the inner lca bolts too
tried a screw extractor set i had.. guaranteed for life! drilled a hole right through, put in the tool, turned, and SNAP.. broke the screw extractor.. that's 2 of 5 in the set broken. so i move to the other side, drill right through, grab a bigger bit and drill through with it, grab the 2nd largest screw extractor and try again.. SNAP, tehre's #3.. needless to say i'm going back to cdn tire with this :P so i decided.. go all out, and try the lca bolts regardless.. i sprayed em with releaseall already anyway. grabbed my 14mm socket, and started turning.. was a little stiff but turned.. so i kept going, and behold, both came out! http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@17.19.06.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@17.19.20.jpg so what the heck, i bolted up the sway bar and tie bar, added anti-seize to all the bolts first.. http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@17.19.48.jpg and here's what it looks like :D i love it! but it's not done yet, no endlinks yet :( crappy.. http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@18.08.12.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@18.08.30.jpg and on the ground... http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@18.35.38.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@18.36.06.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@18.36.22.jpg i'll probably remove the neuspeed sticker when i put on the endlinks.. just because so still need 2 bolts and need to get those broken pieces out of the lca's.. OR get new lca's :/ OH and here's my fuel & brake lines underneath.. YUCK http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@17.20.06.jpg http://everchanging.org/gallery/2006...1@17.20.24.jpg |
