and i see a couple of ducklings or goslings...i can't tell what they are so i stopped to not run them over and they start walking to my car. these things are lost and just wondering around so i get out of the car and i try to make contact with them. being carefull not to startle them i reach out my hand and they come to me. i'm already 5 car lenths away from my car and knowing there's nothing i can do for them i start walking back to my car.....and so do they!! :wtf: so i start walking more and they're still right behind me. i call my neighbour who was at my house to come pick up my car so these ducks or geese or whatever can follow me back. sure enough they followed me right into my garage, a block away from where i found them. my bro, neighbour and I tried feeding them and they just nit picked at some grass and bread.

we then decided to take them swimming. so we take them in the house, fill up the tub and let them chill for a bit. at first they were looking for a way out then they relaxed and started bathing themselves. after they ---- a half dozen times in my tub we decided to take them back outside and now they're chilling with my bro, neighbour, Fuzzy and I.

what do i do with these things? i'd like to keep them till they can fend for themselves but i don't know the first thing about taking care of ducks/geese.....i'm pretty sure they're geese

they told me to take them back to where i found them but they're just gonna follow me home again. i thought about leaving them in my backyard for the day while i'm gone and take them to a near by pond when i get home

Their parents must have been hit by a car or something. I hate seeing people just hit them because they can't stop for 2 seconds to let them cross the road. There are hundreds of these little guys all over the property at my work and I love seeing the little ---- factories.

Do whatever you can to ensure they get what they need.

FuzzyLS BRO 06-02-2007 08:11 AM

ha mark still lives with his parents i'm sure they would love that

STRTLGL 06-02-2007 09:04 AM

How long is Mark gonna keep them for?? They are gonna grow pretty soon and keep in mind that they are at the age of learning how to feed and protect themselves. If they skip this period and learn nothing, then they are not gonna survive.

Mark, you need to take them to WWF. Over there they'll join other birds and will learn what they need to learn.

KleenGiz'R 06-02-2007 09:04 AM

lol they already have names? thats jokes... supercute tho, i'd say keep em too!!

^ LOL. Sick names!

If you can do your research on them and what they need to survive, then ya keep em.

If not then I agree with STRTLGL :yeah:

you can take care of them but they will become domesticated... if you have a safe backyard (no dogs/cats etc..) they can live in a cardboard box (large) and then once they grow they will fly away.

I would keep them until they grow a bit more and then let them go free in the park.. they will most likely come back to your house in flight but no worries... once they meet other geese they will migrate away.

Nice find heheh .... my dog knocked over its bowl the other day and he broke this little bird's leg who was bathing in his bowl. Now im taking care of it until its better and letting it go free soon enough. Birds like any other animal regenerate pretty quickly so they grow fast and their wounds heal quickly. Shes almost walking again, limping on the leg now.

I say keep them. Have fun with ur new pets hehehe.. im moving to georgetown in the next few months so ill have some wild animals soon enough LOL.

well we found out that they're candian geese and their names are Hans and Frans (don't ask why, it was the first thing that popped in to my bros head). AcuraGirl and my Bro are doing research about how to take care of them. they're old enough to feed themselves and one site told us to interact with them as litle as possible because when it comes time to letting them go, they're only go to the first house or place they see humans at. the last thing i wanna do is slow down their learning process or prevent them from learning what they need to survive. the website also told us the best thing to feed them was a farm grade chick feed. luckily one of my friends has a small hobby farm and is currently raising chickens, he offered to give us some chick feed to feed the goslings.

we don't plan on keeping them we're actually looking for a wildlife organization to take them, we're just babysitting for now.

my parents aren't even in the country and won't be back untill august. even if they were home i don't think they'd mind them, both my parents love wildlife.

our backyard is totally fenced in with lots of shade and grass, when i got home a little while ago the first thing i did was check on them and i found them in some shade under a bush. we filled a tin roast pan with water for their drinking and bathing source.

all is well so far i'll keep updating this periodically.

it's illegal to harbour canadian geese but it's a national bird and will help protect it weather it's illegal or not......i guess you can call it "due diligence"

i was just gonna say that.....and if u hold on to them for to long they will never go away

linuxglobal 06-03-2007 02:29 PM

LOL i totally forgot ... ya Mississauga is like that.. im currently moving to a rural area so i started a shopping list of pets, they have no restrictions in rural areas, its awesome.

But even so, dont worry about it, i dont think anyone will call the wildlife assn on u LOL.... unless they dont leave and they see you walking around with geese in the park.

ITs still cool that u set up a home for them. They certainly have a better future this way if u can manage the little area for them. Im guessing you're keeping them inside at night? i asked because of wild animals at night, even squirrels, raccoons etc wonder the yards at night.

Chicken feed and general bird feed sounds good. Most pet shops will carry that type of food if u run out plus they eat grass once they are adults or getting there. Watch out for their feces tho, its practically ongoing as they eat. You will soon have bird ---- everywhere.

Also dont feed them too much or they will get too fat and will never leave.
