Quick Trip to the states.

Alright, I was having a hard time figuring out what to do. I wanted some wheels from California but I wasn't allowed to have them shipped across the border because the tires on them were used. So I found out, that you can take them across the border with you if they are a DOT approved tire for road use. So I had them shipped to New York and went down this morning and picked up these bad boys.

And since I can't find cherry coke anywhere anymore, picked up some of that too.

born2board69 03-17-2007 06:05 PM

nicely done! i always have stuff shipped to the ups store in the falls in the US. And lol when i was there i went into the grocery store and noticed they had 12 packs of peach snapple(which you cant buy here..2 bucks a bottle) and they were on sale for like 6 bucks for a case of 12. Filled my trunk up with snapple and came back. At customs they were like uhhhh enjoy the snapple lol.

Did they charge you anything to bring them accross the border?

Royboy 03-17-2007 06:16 PM

Yea, I had to pay Duty on the wheels, but they let me take the coke for free.

Solid GSR YO 03-18-2007 12:31 AM

roy i hate you, pimp wheels :)

nautica_t YO 03-18-2007 01:11 AM

so how does that work actually if you ship it to the ups store and how much was duties?

and excellent choice on the wheels!!!

Buff4Prez Yo 03-18-2007 01:25 AM

ya i'm interested in that too i might start shipping big stuff to the UPS Store in the US.

Royboy 03-18-2007 06:11 AM

Thanks guys, I'm happy with them. I need 2 new tires before I can put them on the car, but I hope to have them on soon. Really shipping to somewhere just across the border helps save on the cost of brokerage. No matter what it is, you still have to declaire it and pay duty (Taxes of 14% on the value of the items). The only reason I did it for the wheels is because you are not allowed to ship used tires across the border, but you can take them with you if you are crossing the border if the are DOT approved and for personal use. Thats the only reason I had to do it, otherwise the cost of brokerage would have been about the same as gas and food and all that stuff it cost me for the trip, so it would have been about even.

Should have done your homework bro.... wheels with tires mounted on them are dutty fweee!!! You got scammed by customs, there's a classification code that they use for people crossing over with over allowance, it's just a code that adds 5 or 7% can't remember exactly and adds GST/PST. If you just researched and got the exact code for wheels with tires mounted on them you could have told them to use that when you went it and you would only pay GST/PST. FYI for next time.

P.S. - You can bring used tires over from the USA. You just have to get them washed first. It's the soil in the tires that they don't want to enter into Canada. If you take it to a detailer / car wash and get a receipt that they have been power washed it's suffice.

Royboy 03-18-2007 02:54 PM

oh sorry for the confusion, by duty I meant I had to pay the gst/pst. There was no fee for me to bring them back other than I had to pay the taxes. I didn't know that about having them washed. When I contacted Canada border patrol, they told me there was no way to have them shipped over.

awesome wheels, definitely one of my favorites!

They always say that to the public, they play the safe card and tell you no. That's good also that you didn't pay any duty! They were actually doing their job.

sweet rims!

Scrooge 03-19-2007 04:33 PM

can i have a cherry coke please?:giggle:

marty18 03-20-2007 04:29 PM

Great purchase! I was just wondering though, did you drive your Teg across the border? If so, I wonder if it would have been cheaper to put the EVO's on the Teg and paying customs (maybe not even having to) on your old rims. Then again it's probably not even possible and this is just wishful thinking talking.
