I love thunderstorms and finally these are the "best of" pics I have come up with so far. All I have to say is I give alot of credit to the people who have taken good shots of lightning. It takes alot of patience, endurance, and sometimes can be very dangerous. Im a bit of a risk taker and will stand out in the middle of a open field till it starts to rain. Some times, after 100 plus pictures you get nothing. Sometimes, after 2 you get a good one. Luck of the draw I guess, but I love the challenge.

sick! i'm loving the last one. i gave it a 1/2 assed attempt the other night, couple quesions:

really long shutter speed?
what do you do to keep the camera from getting wet?
how far away were you from the storm?

i'm guessing a super slow shutter

Nope, rather a fast shutter speed. Think about it. Its dark out, but when the lightning strikes, its blinding. Think of it as taking a close up of the moon at night. You might think that you need a slow shutter speed, but you actually need it pretty quick.
As far as not getting my camera wet, I am lucky enough everytime to find shelter, whether it is under a overhang or a garage.
How far away was the storms? Some of the pictures you see they were rolling in, and i was in the middle of a field (damn cows kept bugging me lol) As soon as I feel the first drop, I run my ass off for the house lol. Pictures 5 and 6 the storm was right overhead. The thunder was so loud it set my alarm off 5 times lol. It was a crazy one last night.

No, not really.. I have a technique that has been sucessful so far. But like I said, its luck of the draw. Almost like fishing lol. One storm I might not get ---- and the next, I get a good one. Its funny, as I take the pic I think in my head, ah ---- I missed it again. Then I looked at the camera and these are the ones I got. I was stunned.
A 4gb card is a BIG help though.

I love that ---- too it gets me horny, when my girl heres the thunder she knows imma comma humping.

I like the first photo, nice job.
you cant really compare lightning and the moon, those 2 are totally opposite light source. It's like Tungston light vs Flash Strobes..

As long as you dont have any ambient light like your first photo,
your shutter can be as long as it needs.. (30 sec, 5 min, 1 hour ect)
but if you have ambient light like your 4th/5th photos, your shutter speed is limited because of the ambient light source.

for eg.
This picture is shot with the same method as shooting a lightning but with a flash.
my shutter speed was 58 seconds @ f22
I popped my flash 7 times, whole time i was in the middle of the bridge.
if it was a photo of a lightning, there would've been combination of 7 lightnings in my photo..

ednyboo - The only reason I mentioned the moon was because people were asking me if I had my shutter opened for a long period of time. If I was to have my shutter opened for a long period of time, I would thinik it would have been over exposed. And if you try to take a picture of the moon at night, as decieving as it might be the your shutter speeds need to be relatively quick. I do understand what your saying, but at the same time I think that if I was to have my shutter open for over 1 second it would be a flash of white when a strike occurs.
Does that make sense? Remember, I am simply messing around with my camera. I am a amateur and have ALOT to learn, and want to learn.

i bought a remote trigger for my camera yesterday, should be here in about a week-ish. i'm thinking it'll help because it was annoying trying to look thru the camera all the time.

Some of those shots I wasnt.. If you had your tripod set up, its alot easier. And continous shooting mode on. You will get it Jay, its all about timing and patience. BTW how much do the romote triggers go for?

Ha I knew it!! lol P.S. That car is SEXY!! I seen you 2 just stop and look at my car so I thought I would make it obvious but standing there and staring back lol. The front lights on the s2000 need to be wet sanded tho. They look a bit yellowed.. But still one of the hottest s2000 I have seen in Hamilton!

Maybe the yellow HIDs make them look "yellowed".

It wasnt cause of the hid's. I was inside when you were waiting for your stuff so all I seen was the headlights and half of a wheel poking past the building.. Maybe it was a bit dirty, who knows. It just didnt look clear thats all.
