I hate rusting rotors!
5 Attachment(s)
One thing I hate the most is buying a new pair of rotors and having it rust a few months later. I got these KVR's last summer and i haven't driven my car in the rain, all the rust is just from water deposites after a car wash. Anyways i hate looking at it, so i decided i would paint the rusting rotor hub. Pictures below of this small project.
Iew Attachment 20572 Attachment 20573 I sanded them down alittle to make it smooth http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...r/IMG_3073.jpg Precision work lol! i took the long way at doing it Attachment 20574 Much better! Attachment 20575 Done! Attachment 20576 Can't wait till they dry! |
lol how long did it take you to mask that? i just sanded my rotors down and went crazy on them, afterwards i let my pads clean up the rotor surface :P
lazy = me. |
^john thats what i would've done, i would've just sprayed the whole thing and use the pads to clean it off lol
wr3d, they look alot better, i've tried to tape them up and paint them but that just takes too damn long, i find if you grab some paint (whatever you want to use), spray it into a paper cup or something, then dab one of those sponge brushes into the cup and then paint it on. so much easier and faster.

LOL i was thinking about doing that on my way to work this morning.... what kinda paint did you use? i have flat black rust paint would that work?

i used dupri coat high heat engine paint. Flat black rust paint should work!
I did the method john mentioned. BBQ paint works well too
hmm i wanna do this
^^^piece of cake. if you're really lazy you can leave the rotors on the car
rotors on the car is the easiest...just wrap the surface with newspaper...if you get paint on there, oh well the pad is there to scrape that ---- off...
^+1

Good work! I plan on doing the same thing. I just got new rotors and its got a nice fresh coat of rust.
I can't believe you guys paint your rotors.
Painting your rotors is fine. As long as you're not using the wrong paint.
holy green tape batman!
why don't you just buy the coated ones???
i painted mine as well :) |
I spray my rotors right on the car... I use a silver paint that has metal flakes in it... the brakes will clean any over spray off the braking surface.
Paint with metal flakes is different then ones without and oil based... I wouldn't want to get that on my rotors. |
nice job. what about the rears?
