if you dont know, Toyota sold the chevy cavalier in japan as a RHD car?
and if you did know this, allow me to crawl back under the rock i have been under [edit] Toyota Cavalier http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedi...Rearlights.jpg http://en.wikipedia.org/skins-1.5/co...gnify-clip.png 1996 Toyota Cavalier coupé (Japanese export model with amber rear turn signals) The third generation model was briefly sold in Japan by Toyota, under a company agreement with GM, badged as the Toyota Cavalier, with some notable differences. Besides the fact that it was right hand drive, the Toyota Cavalier also featured a leather-wrapped shift knob and steering wheel, wider front fenders, Japanese legal taillights (with amber turn signals, per Japanese regulations), power folding rear mirrors, side turn signal repeater lights on the front fenders, and carpeting on the inside of the trunk lid. Interior seats were often flecked with color. Rear seat was folding. The Toyota Cavalier was entirely produced by GM in the USA and delivered fair sales from 1995 to 2000. A fair number of these vehicles are re-exported as Japanese used cars, most notably to New Zealand. the only one who never knew this, if i am well so what |
Well, I am a toyota guy so thats no news to me lol
|
I knew that.
|
GM has some of old korean car designs as their new car and stuff with different names -_ -..
there are some stupidest marketers in the u.s. car companies.. they think cavalier will become big in japan and ppl choose it over corolla. |
I have actually seen JDM headlights and JDM tail lights for the cavalier on ebay (actual JDM ones lol)
|
It's ok Marko, you don't have to go crawling anywhere but I first got news of this back in 2000 when browsing through the BOMEX catalogue and they offered a kit for the Cadavalier. The ppl who bought this kit considered themselves "JDM"

lol, ya i remember learning this a few years ago and was like, wtf? How can anyone buy such an unrefined piece of crap. My gf has an 02 Cavalier and that thing is built so poorly.
|
Disposable cars. They're meant to be purchased new or fairly new for little money and driven to the ground.
|
old news.... apparently, even some dealers didn't know that.
when we went to get my wife's 04 corolla, the sales guy was pointing to a cavvy and saying how much of a piece of ---- it was.. lol.... ALSO, there's a chevy version of the old corolla too.. like the 98 style corollas i mean. |
I have a show car team mate who actually got one here in the US with the left hand USDM dash and steering assembly!!! He almost never loses because it's so rare!!!
IGLOW's Cavi |
I am sure GM paid some more attention to quality of the export units. I know that in Europe Cavaliers (and even Neons) were considered good cars to own back in times.
|
Me... I had no clue.... Thats cool...

GM ownes 20% of Toyota Corp. Also, all Toyota's 2002+ have GM transmissions in them.
