wtf is wrong with my car?

Alright soo.. when my car is off, i can shift into any gear without a problem. once i turn on my car i cant shift into any gear, and the gears grind when i try putting it into reverse. it also feels like theres no force on the clutch, and it stays down until you manually pull it back.

can anyone tell me whats wrong? do i need a new clutch?

spoom 06-06-2010 04:29 PM

yupp sounds like u need a new clutch

D.T.P 06-06-2010 06:22 PM

Not necessarily.
It is a clutch or other clutch component issue, but the fact that you have close to no resistance in clutch and that you have to bring it up manually points me to slave cylinder.
Open the hood and look at the slave cylinder. It will have a rubber boot, slide it back to see if there are any fluids there. Also get somebody to push on the clutch and see if the slave cylinder moves. Make sure you have fluid in the reservoir.

same ---- happened to me. my ACT clutch pressure plate decided to take a dump. the forks were bent and needed a pressure plate, but ended up replacing the whole clutch.

But the pedal should still go back up with a busted pressure plate.

MaxBiggavell 06-06-2010 07:00 PM

do you think it might be a fluid leaking? cuz i was lookin under the pedal and it looked like there was some oil leaking..

ya my pedal went back and forth like normal.

When pedal doesn't come back up means either master or slave cylinder is damaged. Since its a hydrolic system, if there is a leak it won't function properly. And every time you lift up the clutch manually it sucks in air.

D.T.P 06-06-2010 09:28 PM

It could be the clutch master cylinder leaking down onto the pedal.
But a fluid leak will definitely create a problem that you are having.

Ya its the master cylinder this happened to me 2 years ago all the fluid leaked down the pedal and the pedal stayed down and wouldn't come up.

SOR 06-07-2010 06:05 AM

yup either master or slave cylinder for sure. same thing happened to me on my old 94

MaxBiggavell 06-07-2010 11:32 AM

what do you think the price range to fix this would be??
im soo cheesed right now cuz i cant move my car -_- lol

AcuratePaul 06-07-2010 01:17 PM

I think it cost me just under 300 with parts and labour.

MaxBiggavell 06-07-2010 01:54 PM

Im sure you got your answers already but just to let you know it happened to me to, I changed the master and slave cylinder, got both from the wreackes for under 20 bucks, if you havent got to it yet make sure you get fliud, cause while bleeding you will lose some, then you can top it up. good luck

SOR 08-09-2010 10:21 PM

holy... 300 bucks for a slave? that better have been both...

i changed my slave and the part was 25 bucks after tax. and it took like five min to install.

The DC2 clutch master cylinder brand new from the dealer is already $210. Factor in taxes and labour, even if you bring it to a small shop it is still around $300. NAPA autoparts sells an aftermarket one for around $160.
