Default The Winter Tire Thread

with winter around the corner, i think it's appropriate.

i haven't got a set of winter tires yet, but i'm leaning towards michelin x-ice from canadian tire.

for 195-60-14 it's $130 each.

discuss your setup, input, prices and leads on winter deals.

My setup, Dunlop M2's 195/65/15 I paid $560 for them after install, balance and disposal of old tires. This would be my third winter with them. Have about 85% left.

By far the best tires I find for winter are Nokian Hakka(something) 1s or 2s. Have 1s on my beater and 2s on the GF's car. Amazing wet, dry and snow grip. I feel they outperform anything on the market that I've tried. Plus, they're pretty cheap too. 14s should run you in the 100 dollar range. I'd also recommend thinner tires like a 185 or even a 175 if you can find them, since thinner tires perform better in the snow - cut through snow as opposed to float on top of it. I once found a set of old retired rally race tires that were 145s and man were they amazing in the snow! Those rally guys have a lot of success with those pizza cutters - amazing grip. Sucked in the dry so I stayed away from them. 185s are a good compromise.

Been using Toyo Garit HT with microbits for 1 winter so far. Felt much more confident drivning on winters compared to all-seasons. That tire is good on dry and in snow, check them out.

Since this is on the topic of winter tires, I thought I would post it here.

I need a set of steelies and found a set of 13" OEM Silver Honda Steelies that are 4 x 100. Will these fit on my 94 GS-R body? Also, I was told since they're smaller that I might have a problem with them clearing the brakes .. the tires on the steelies are 175/70 R13 MotoMaster SE All Season Rubber if anyone wanted to know ...

Thanks in advance!

yay! i ended up getting michelin x-ice. in 195-60-14, the base stock tire/rim size for a DC. didn't wanna go thinner/taller, though it's cheaper, cause i just can't stand the look of skinny tires from the back, plus scared that the 65's or 70's tall might rub on my integra, lowered on h&r race.

shopped around private places, and found one here in markham. the owner said these tested next best to nokian, last winter in sweden. the price was good, about $120 a tire, tax in. paid, just over $500.

however, nokian hakka's are the best no doubt! super soft compound. but soo damn pricey! the other tires i was considering that were in the same price range were dunlop graspics. the yoko's had a good markup on them too, close to the price nokians were going for.

anyway, the compound's nice and soft, the tread looks simple yet effective. i'll let u know how it goes when the snow comes! as for now, save the tread and drive slow homies!

I'm debating whether or not to buy a winter rim/tire combo that has an overall diameter that's greater than stock by 1". My ride is also lowered 1". Is this compatible for winter driving? Will it rub?

+1

I had the Hakka's on the Teg (traded for summer tires - no winters anymore for the old girl)
I have a set on the wife's Accord
My Brother had them on his Teg (now on his wife's Civic Won't fit on the TL )
My Dad has them on his Accord (Still on the accord)

i wouldnt go 14's it defeats the purpose. the smaller the diameter the smaller foot print on the ground and usually the width of the tire is thinner so even less. so youll gain some but loose some probabaly still a gain.

If anybody has a set of used but still good of 5 lugs, 16" PM me.

That's exactly what you want in winter. A smaller foot print in the snow, NOT bigger.

Perfect size for integra's would be 185/60/14
