Will this turbo work for me?
 
i have an opportunity for getting this turbo for a good price and im not sure if it will meet my goals that im looking to make

i will be running a 3 inch full exhaust with 450cc injectors on a good tune on a b16a2.
and im looking to make roughly 220whp at 8lbs and about 250whp at 11lbs.

now i know this is a very vauge idea but is this turbo capable of making the power i want?

The 2554 is an amazing little turbo. It spools up so fast, you could probably make boost parking at the mall. But that quick spool and small size come at a price, as its not the best for making huge power, and you will feel it fall off in the top end (esp if you rev to 8000+)

The 2560 will easily give you the power you want and won't fall off as much. Its still a ball bearing and will spool quickly, just not as quick as the 2554.

actually i jsut relized that that is the 60 trim, the turbo im getting si a 48 trim i believe which worries me if you believe the 60 trim will fallshort in highrpms.

yea its definatly a nice turbo, i just had an offer to get the .48 from someone for a good price, buying it new from blaast is a little out of my pricerange for the turbo. Probably just get one of their t3/t4 rebuilts for like 500

i think that is a better choice and a much more reasonable price. it should give you close to your target of 250hp at 8psi in that motor with proper tuning.

it looks as though it has the 5 bolt turbine housing, i'd make sure that is the case, if it comes with a 7 bolt i'd ask to get a flange with it so you can make a dp... you'll be hard pressed to find the 7 bolt flange anywhere.

that little sucker will spool up so fast, which is good if you think about it because the B16 lacks on the low end. were you planning on keeping the stock redline? because if so it won't be that bad, it will drop off a bit at the end, but even still, it's a nice turbo.

the second one that ryan posted is the one you want, that badboy will spool up a little bit later, but when it does it's pretty hardcore. however both turbo's will get you your goal of 220whp but the first turbo doesn't really leave you much more room if you ever want to turn up boost. the down side is that they are both expensive as fock.

that's why i went with the T3/TO4E, it's kinda the best of both worlds, decent spool up time and doesn't drop off at the end. (on a reasonalbe amount of boost)


btw you can't go wrong with blaastperformance.com, they were out of the 5 bolt flanged 50trim .48a/r; so they upgraded me to the 7bolt .63a/r 60 trim turbo and gave me the 7 bolt flange for FREEE!!!!!!

thats pretty good customer service fuzzy, i think i probably will go with the turbo you did. good price for good results? What wastegate are you using?

well, the thing is b16s are top end engines....you'll spend lots of money and not make the power you really could (in the top end) with a small turbo on a b16. You have to decide before spending any money, what you'll be using the car for, and where you want your powerband to be.
A smaller turbo is nice on the street, since it spools fast, but like someone said above, you'll be running out of steam in the higher RPMs....where b16s really shine.
A bigger turbo is nice for the track, b/c it'll make big power and give you a little more time to get traction b/c it spools slower so boost coming in too early isn't an issue.
And obviously there are limits to these statements, you wouldn't put a t4 .80A/R on a stock b16 and expect to make any boost before 5000, just like you wouldn't put a little tdo4h (15g) on a b16 and expect it to make any sort of decent power at 8k.
So the trick is, getting a turbo with a smaller hot side and a cold side that will actually be efficient at higher RPMs....this is where the t3/t4s are nice...there are many different varietys of t3/t4s to suit your needs.

i got my hands on a turbonetics evolution wastegate, i diden't trust those ebay ones. the turbo i got was for a great price, but you'll have to wait on the results..haha. but since blaastperformance is located in montreal, there's no duty and next to nothing shipping :rockon:
