wheel paint removal
i bought a set of rims thats painted black with cheap paint and its peeling now. i try to use paint peeler to take off the black n its not working too well. can anybody help?
thx |
did u let it sit ? some times it takes a while for that stuff to work . i usuly spray way too much and let it sit for a long time and when i come back there ready to go with just a garden hose and a wire brush.
|
brake clean, and gasket remover works good on paint, ESPECIALLY gasket remover just let it sit and u can actually see the paint lift off the metal, you can literally whip it off.
|
brake clean will not remove paint. Use paint thinner or paint stripper, or sand then down.
|
depending on the paint paint thinner might not work the greatest. but the 2 spike suggested are good. if none of that works just resort to air craft stripper found at your local automotive supply store like napa or sherwin williams etc..
you looking to repaint or polish? |
The only thing is with that air craft stripper that you can buy from them, it's not as strong as the stuff a body shop gets, plus you don't want to get that stuff on you at all, it will eat through clothes, and if it gets on your skin, it burn big time. I have used the really good stuff in the pass, it works well, but it ------- hurts like hell if it gets on you. So if you resort to that, get a brush, and a good set of gloves to wear.

im using this paint stripper the brand is proly from home depot its really strong i just didnt let it sit. i apply some n try to clean off paint right away with a scrub pad, thats prob the mistake. it burn right through the scrub pad n rubber glove, few drop on my arm it hurts so im sure its very strong. also dohc im just taking the paint off n put on my beater civic not gonna waste money n time to repaint or polish.

thx guys I would take a minute after getting it stripped and add a couple of coats of wheel paint from CTC. The stuff is very good and pops when clear coat is added. For $20 you will have decent looking rims....;) |
aircraft stripper only works in high heat although for poorly painted objects, it might work well.
|
shouldn't you use primer before you add the color
